Some Reflux Issues

0 Recommendations

My little 34 weeker is now 2 1/2 months (actual) and she has acid reflux. She takes prevacid and Zantac. Right now, her dad and I have to sleep in shifts because she vomits and we fear that she will choke. Yes, we sit her up for 30 min after she eats and we have her bed at an angle to ease her reflux. I just worry that she will choke on her vomit while we sleep, thus us sleeping in shifts. Did anyone else have the problem of their babies vomiting/choking during the night? Did you have to sleep in shifts? I just need some tips about how to handle reflux at nighttime. thanks!

We purchased a BabySense V infant movement monitor from Babies R Us. While it does not alleviate my fear about something happening to my daughter that I can't control, it helps me/us sleep a bit better knowing that her breathing/movement is being monitored.

because she was choking and vomiting so much. I love it and she sleeps so much better. They told me that most insurance carriers pay for it, but I needed it ASAP, so I just paid for it...or more like she did.

My daughter has reflux as well, though it has gotten better. She is on Prevacid, and was for a time on Domperidon to keep her bowels moving so less to reflux. We fit a body wedge into her crib, which worked wonders until she started wiggling off of it. Luckily (I never thought I would say this! lol) she has a Tracheostomy tube, and therefore is on an oximeter overnight, so I never had to worry about her vomiting in her sleep as I was up every half hour checking all the (mostly false) alarms anyways! lol

We purchased the Nap Nanny but now that my son is almost 4 months he arches out of it. The product Violetsmom purchased looks really nice. The journal of pediatric gastroenterology says prone (stomach) positioning is the best for reflux, but it is not recommended because of the increased risk of SIDS, so I wouldn't do it without a monitor. Luckily our son is on a pulse oximeter at home so it gives us peace of mind. You could also ask your pediatrician for an apnea monitor for night use, but make it sound like you really think it is dangerous and she chokes really bad and turns blue or something in case he's like our pediatrician and always says "it's fine". We usually hold our son for at least 45 min after feeds on our chests so he is on his stomach with his head elevated and then we put him back in his crib with a wedge. It seems to be working for now.

Hi. My daughter Carissa is a former 23wkr.1mo corrected. She is still in the NICU she refluxes so bad & even scarier...she aspirates on it! I fear she will aspirate in her sleep or even worse, get pneumonia and it could be fatal! So I have decided to follow the drs advice and have a g tube (she's never taken a bottle) / nissen.
I'm anxious to get her better & finally bring her home!

we have the gtube surgery on tuesday but i think it's more because she doesnt bottle.. even though she does have severe gerd. i think everything you're doing is what we're doing... except we both sleep at the same time unless she's feeding. she's fed through ng tube over 1/2 hour, so we get up for that and she keeps sleeping throughout the night (10 hours!!). we burp her in the morning. just a month ago she was constantly vomiting.. even though we tried to constrict movement for at least one hour after feeds... and already she's so much better!! it really is time..

Violetsmom, thank you for showing me about the Resq wedge! I bought one, I hope it works for her!! I also have a Dr's appointment tomorrow. We are having an ultrasound done to see if there is any fat tissue built up in the intestine that connects to her stomach. They say that she shouldn't be spitting up so much after she eats. So wish us luck. Thank you so much for all of your advice. I'll update what they say tomorrow.
