slow growth and smaller head

0 Recommendations

Hello,

My daughter was born at 28 weeks and is now 14 months adjusted. She has done great with all her development but she is still so tiny. She weighs around 15lbs. and is 27 inches long. I worry all the time about her size and growth. Her head also seems to be a bit on the smaller side. I was wondering if anyone has delt with a situation like mine. If their child was tiny and had a smaller head. Her doctor does tell me she is proportionat but has hit a plateu. My husbamd or myself are not very big people so maybe it's genetics also but its still sometimes is so over whelming and consumes my thoughts. Thank you for any help, Kimberly

Hi there,

I have twins that were born at 27 weeks, and they're adjusted age is also 14 months so I am guessing they are around the same age as your daughter. My daughter is also quite small, around 16 lbs. and 27 inches, right near your daughter's size. I have always been concerned about her head as well, because my son hasn't had a soft spot for quite some time, but my daughter still does. Our doctor has told us exactly the same thing, and that her growing curve has always been right on track, just extremely small; below the 3rd percentile, and that because of her age she has hit a plateau and that that is normal. It is still hard though to not be concerned; my son is about 8 lbs heavier and a few inches taller yet my daughter eat more than him. I do not understand at all. But she is doing great cognitively, so hopefully it just means that she's a petite little girl; the same goes for your's as well! My husband and I also aren't very big people:) Oh, one more thing-she has never tolerated milk well so I switched her to soy milk and she stopped throwing up all the time and seems to be gaining a little better now. If anything, I hope it helps to know that our girls seem to be doing about the same and our doctor has no concerns about her size. I hope that helps a little!

Hi Kelly,

Thank you for your comment. It is so reassuring knowing that I'm not alone. Before I found this forum I felt like I was the only one dealing with these issues. Our daughters sound a lot alike. I guess they are just petite little girls. As long as their healthy is all that matters. Thanks for letting me know what your doc has to say. Its always good to see what other proffessionals are saying about different things.
You take care,
Kimberly
