Shortened cervix, 22 weeks

This has been such a hard pregnancy and we have come so far. We are having twins and have had some scares in terms of possible ttts or iugr. right now they are doing well, but just found out my cervix went from 3.8 at 19 weeks to 2.7 at 22 weeks. they are having me come back in on monday to measure again.
Anyone been through this? Hoping to hold off until 28 weeks. Is that a pipe dream?

Sounds just like me. I'm now 28 4/7. My cervix shortened at 19 weeks to 2.2 and I was put on bed rest. I've gone in every other week for cervical measurements....cervix went back up into the 3's as long as I stayed down. Just last week I went in and it was back down to 2.2 again. So now on stricter bed rest...( I was only supposed to rest for a couple hours then sleep 8-10 hours at night. Now I have to be down unless I am showering, goi g to the bathroom, or eating.) I've also been on 17p shots since week 16.

It can be done! Just make sure you are doing everything to rest and stay off your feet. And ask a ton of questions of your doctor...and see a specialist if you aren't all ready!

It can be done. I lasted up to 34 weeks with my daughter. Just make sure you do everything possible to be on strict bedrest. Get up only when you need to use the RR and shower very quickly. Lay on your side when you eat this way you dont get up nor sit up. I too was getting the 17p shots beginning at 20 weeks along with oral meds to prevent contractions.

thanks for your replies. i am on the 17p shot too but obviously not working well enough. i decided to go to hospital yesterday due to back pain, because i am so worried i might miss preterm labor signs. they did the ffn? test which came back negative so i was happy about that, at least for the next two weeks. they also monitored me for contractions, lots of uterine irritability in bouts. did anyone experience this as well?

I was hospitalized for about two weeks with my daughters pregnancy due to some contractions. After they stopped contractions I still continued to have a lot of uterine irritability. I was then discharged and able to continue strict bed rest at home but was sent on medication, believe it was procardia which helped a lot.

I m currently expecting as well . I went in at 18 weeks my cervix were 3.15 cm stayed that way at 20 week check up . Just went in at 23 weeks and went to 3.07 so now will have to go every 2 weeks . I m scared because I know once you go under 3 cm is ccause for concern . I previoulsy have had a 29 weeker ,33 weeker and they suspect our 3 rd baby girl will be a 33 weeker. Also been on p17 shots starting at 16 weeks .

I pray you ladies do well!! I was placed on bed rest as of Thursday. Im 22 weeks and was hospitalized for a UTI and preterm labor. I was measured at 1cm. Im now at home and on strict bed rest for the next 12 weeks. Which will make me 35 weeks and the end of my bed rest. I was told my cervix is pretty long which is good!! I pray I can hold off until then. I contracted last night during my sleep. It was kinda scary. I'm on the progesterone shot. I think it's helping! :)

Hello. Hopefully, I can give you some hope. At 20 weeks, I found out that I had an EXTREMELY short cervix (7mm). I was sent directly to the hospital and stayed there for 4 days. I was sent home on strict bedrest at that point. Today, I am 26 weeks exactly and I'm 3 cm dilated and at least 90% effaced. My doctor has given me a 50/50 chance to make it to 28 weeks. I'm also taking the P17 shots and this is my 18th day in the hospital. Every day is a blessing. Best of luck to you!!

susie- i asked about procardia and they said not as of yet.
ladybug- i am glad that you were able to go home and be monitored. It seems like we are due around the same time.
angel- I wish you lots of luck as well. How did they figure 33 weeker? Just curious.
update- I went in for cervical measurements and no change so sill 2.7 which is good for now. hoping to stay that way for a while.

Have you hospital bed rest ladies checked out the website keepemcookin.com? They have a great forum of other moms on bed rest.

I had twins also, but we did have TTTS. And the weight of the fluid caused me to start having contractions very early on, like at 18-20 weeks. They maintained the contractions with meds, something that starts with an "N" that I can't remember right now, and eventually did a cerclage. It was no big thing, and it helped hold them in, until 28 weeks. But we had an emergency c-section, so if they do decide to do a cerclage, it will be a good thing, to allow the babies to stay in your tummy for as long as possible. Good luck!

Ryansmama- They figure 33 weeks since with my last pregnancy i did the shots and bedrest and thats as far as i got which was hard enough to get to thats for sure . I praying I CAN PROVE them wrong but been having lots little contractions here and there .

I had a shortened cervix and had a cerclage done around the 22 weeks mark, and was put on bedrest. I lasted until 36 weeks on strict bedrest so it can be done! I also worked for a while from bed but toward the end did nothing but stay in bed (at home). Follow your doctor's orders and you may be able to do it! Best of luck.

thanks everyone. Susie, i am now 23 weeks. i had my follow-up appt at chop yesterday and babies still look very stable.(this is in terms of my selective intrauterine growth restriction) Thank God! there is only a 21 percent discordance between the two so they are still growing nicely. i go back on monday for another cervical length. thank you to everyone for sharing your stories.

So I went back and my cervical length went from 2.7 to 2.4. They were not too concerned but I AM. Simply been told to just take it easy on modified bedrest. Dos this seem like enough. We are 24 weeks on Thursday.
