Shoes?

0 Recommendations

Mollie is 14 mos. act./12 mos. adj. and is getting close to walking. She pulls herself up and just started letting go - she does also cruise slowly on furniture. My question is about shoes: should I have her wearing shoes for most of the day so she gets used to standing/walking with them? My little darling prefers to take hers off and try to eat them. (Who knew leather and velcro were so yummy?) We have hardwood floors so mostly she is barefoot so she doesn't slip and fall. Thanks for any input!

Most pediatricians believe that when kids are learning to walk, they should be barefoot. Just get some shoes for when she's outside!

As a general rule, barefoot is best for developing feet. We bought my daughter's first pair of shoes when she was ~12 months corrected, but she only wore them when walking outside. The pediped originals are a great transition from barefoot walking because the sole is a very thin leather. We didn't worry about shoes with thicker soles until she was walking more proficiently.

Agreed with mygirlsmom and brneyedgrl827 .

Our son did use shoes based on the PTs recommendation but it was because he had some foot and ankle issues. If your child is progressing "normally," shoes are unnecessary and are believed to restrict ligaments, which isn't a good thing.

Thanks everyone! Glad I wasn't holding her back by not putting her in shoes. The things we worry about!

Robeez are great for starting out. They have thin leather soles so the foot and toes can feel the ground. They also have an elastic opening at the top which keeps them from being easily pulled off by baby.

Like the others said, my son goes barefoot unless we are outside. Then he wears Pedipeds. I really like the leather sole too, plus they are so lightweight and I don't feel like they inhibit his walking.

callie hs some slipers for inside when its cold, we also have hardwood and in the morings and evenings its kinda cold on bare feet. They haven't slowed her down in any way, and she loves playing with them when she is just rolling on the floor :-)

I used Bear Feet Shoes (expensive but worth it) with my 3 girls. They have gum soles and the T-strap mary janes are tough to get off.

For inside we were strictly BoBuxUSA fans.
