My son will be discharged this week. We've been in the NICU for 5 months and is finally going to be able to take our son home. He has a mickey button and is doing great with it. I have another baby who's 18 months old and has my undivided attention on a daily basis. Have any of you experience them being upset with you for bringing another baby home ? or did you have problems with them not listening to you? I just want to know anyones experience with having a child already and then bringing home a preemie.

I don't have any specific advice... but I just wanted to say Congratulations!!!! That is so exciting for you. Our son was in the NICU for 4 months, so I know how you are feeling.

I am sure others on here have more experience with bringing baby home with other kids. Best of luck to you!

My oldest daughter was about 19 months old when I brought my youngest home (29 weeker). She wasn't really what to think at first but got used to the idea. I tyr to involve my oldest as much as possible, like getting me diapers, helping me hold the bottle, things like that so they don't feel left out. Now the only time she gets mad is when I want to hold her and she says "no, my baby". LOL. good luck I hope your children adjust as well as mine did.

Thanks for the advice and I'm so happy to bring him home.... I'm glad this rollercoaster is soon to be over

My son was quite a bit older (4) when we brought our youngest home after 4 months in the hospital, but one rule we had for any family coming to visit was that they needed to greet and pay attention to the oldest before making their way over to the baby. When my husband got home from work, he went to the oldest first as well. I think that helped big brother from getting lost in the shuffle .

Congratulations on bringing your baby home! It is the best feeling in the world!

YOU did it. Congrats to you and your family. I am so happy for you. I am almost one month down and three to go. I can't wait for TreDay.

Congratulations to family! I had a son in NICU (only child at time), and he was there for two weeks. I know how difficult it is and only can imagine what it is like with another young one in the house!
That's why with this pregnancy, I was monitored on a weekly basis at the OB since 30 weeks. I am now 37, and, can't wait to deliver, it seems like an eternity this time!

Hi I new here but I understand what you are going thur in sept I had a baby girl at 34 weeks she was 3lbs 10ozs she stayed in the nicu for 18 days and at home I had 3 other kids waiting my youngest was 10 months and he only wants me and no one else which caused alot of problems while i was in the hospital from 33 weeks till 4 days after i had her but my dad was great he made sure that luke my youngest was up in the hospital with me everyday and when i came home my husband made sure he took care of our daughter the 1st couple days to make sure that luke was ok with the baby now luke will come up and say baby and throw kisses to her and want to share his bottle but our other problem that we never saw coming was my step daughter who is 9 she wants to be the baby now we catch her with some of the baby stuff or talking baby but we are working on that but my oldest son he is the best helper he keeps my youngest son busy with playing with toys before I feed our youngest daughter I try to let luke and evelyn interact with me hovering but they need this and they get time with you

I don't have experience bringing a second preemie into the house, but I do have experience bringing another child into the house.

When our son was 20.5 months adjusted, we started fostering a little girl (18 months old). Our son had been the center of the universe until that point in time. It was an adjustment. Our foster daughter was actually very easy to take care of, no problems making the transition into our family. Our son, who was already very exuberant, became super SUPER super loud. It was definitely an adjustment for him. After she'd been with us an hour or two, he announced "All done" (meaning that we could return her already). After a month, however, he accepted her and considered her one of the family. It has been over 6 months now, and he is very protective of her. It is cute!

As for your question "did you have problems with them not listening to you?"...yes! Both kids are in full-blown terrible twos mode. They want things when they want them. They have no patience. I'm confident that our son's failure to listen would have happened with or without other kids in the house. Just goes with the territory! One just has to accept that two year olds whine and cry. One tries to be responsive within reason and not take their tantrums personally. :)

Thanks everyone well it turned out that it wasn't a bug problem after all. My daughter was 1 week late when I had her and now shes very independent and my little helper so I love it . My son has soooo many appts that when she gets home from nursery i"m worn out but I find the energy. But everything is going well so far
