Persistent low-grade fever

0 Recommendations

Violet has had a low-grade fever for the past 3 days. It is running around 99.5 and tonight it's 100.3. She has absolutely no other symptoms of illness and is eating great. I gave her tylenol the first night and it broke and came back. Last night I decided to watch it and it was never higher than 99.7. She felt hot again tonight and it's 100.3. Although i'm a nurse...when it comes to my own baby I feel like an idiot. I thought it might be teething, but she is still young (3 months adjusted)....any ideas?? I guess I will call the doc tomorrow. I hate to bring her into the sick den, but this is out of the norm for her.

Tylenol Motrin Seizures Fever

Could be teething, could be a low-grade virus. As long as she doesn't have any other symptoms, I would just keep cool wash clothes on her forehead, use some tylenol, and keep your eyes peeled for an ear infection - they often result after these kinds of fevers.

My lil gal was running a low grade fever for a few days too and then started pulling on her ears. We did warm compresses on her ear for 10mins on each ear, several times a day and watched her. The fever went away and so did the pulling on the ears. We figured the teething might have been just putting a lil build up of pressure and bothering her ears. She isnt too young to be teething though. My kids seemed to teeth forever w/ their first teeth. My 2nd son got his first tooth at 4.5mos.

Three months isn't too early for it to be teething. Some babies start getting the fevers early. Also, I think we all feel like idiots from time to time when it comes to our children and their "scary/sick" moments. All my life I heard that fevers over 105 warranted an ER visit, because something drastic would occur if you didn't get to a doctor. Now, I learn there is no danger associated with fever at all (just the infection that is causing the fever). Even febrile seizures rarely cause any ill effects. I could have used this information with my first child 18 yrs ago. Boy did I feel like a goof as the doctor explained all of this to me the other day.

I hope your little one feels better ASAP. Our doctors told us that motrin or tylenol would probably only bring Casey's fever down to the 100-101 range this past weekend and as long as it wasn't over 102, it was doing exactly what it was supposed to be doing. She was right. The highest it got was 104.1 which was still nerve-wracking for me. I hope you ave a saner time. *hugs*

I feel so nervous because it's MY baby. If I were at work, I would not even consider 100.3 to be a fever, and that's what I would tell the mom. We don't treat fevers under 101.0...but I can't help to think about what is going on and the fear of an illness in the future! Ahh...this is only the beginning, I'm sure!

We were told the same thing as Mama_Cyndi... "motrin or tylenol would probably only bring Casey's fever down to the 100-101 range this past weekend and as long as it wasn't over 102, it was doing exactly what it was supposed to be doing. She was right. The highest it got was 104.1 which was still nerve-wracking for me."

Henry has had bouts w/ a virus several times that have done exactly what Mama_Cyndi described. By now, we have learned that Henry just tends to run high fevers. There was one weekend that he was up to 103 and 104 and we did take him to the ER... that decision was also based on a lot of leakage from his g-tube. So, unfortunately, we have also learned that Henry's g-tube leaks a lot when he runs a temp. Ugh! Seems to defeat the purpose, right!

Anyway, I wouldn't be too worried yet, although I know its nerve-wracking! We found that Motrin works best w/ Henry, but when its high like that we alternate b/w Motrin and Tylenol and just make sure that Motrin is what he gets before bed so he sleeps better.

Hopefully, this will pass soon!

Remember what you know: there's nothing to worry about! With my boys I wouldn't even give tylenol for a fever that low. Technically it isn't even a fever until 100.0 oral, is it? I've heard different things on that one and I go by 100.0 rectal being high for my guys. But you KNOW there is nothing to worry about. If you want, I'll send my boys to you and they can say to you, "OK OK OK OK" over and over if it might help. :)
