At what age did your babies wean themselves down to one nap a day?
Hi,
I will be interested in this topic, too. My girls are 29 months old and still take 2 naps, but they stay up pretty late, in order to be able to really see their daddy:) They should definitely be down to one nap by this age, but they'd never see daddy (he works long hours). So, I guess, we will do this until it doesn't work for them anymore:) I am always curious when other people made the switch:)
My son is a 26 weeker, who will be 2 tomorrow. He began napping once a day around 15 months actual, 18 months adjusted.
my girl is 13mo actual and 11 adjusted and is seeming to resist her morning nap. resist is an understatement - she will scream until the point of gagging and vomiting until i come get her. is it too soon for her to nap once a day?? she sleeps at night from 7pm to 7am.
Mine were really not ready for one nap until about a month ago (at 20 months). They started "chatting" during their morning nap at about 16 months actual, but when we tried to wean them from it, by 11am they were a total mess. So we kept trying it every other week or so, until they really hadn't slept during the morning nap in over a week. We think for those 4 months, they weren't doing a ton of sleeping during that morning nap, but it did help them "reset" the stimulation button, if that makes any sense. When the weaning started, we just shifted their morning nap back further and further for about 2 weeks, until they only had one nap at noon (12-2 - if I'm lucky). Good luck! Mine have also been sleeping 7-7 since they were 6 months old.
Henry was about 13 or 14 months (11-12 actual) when he stopped taking 2 naps a day. We experienced what mygirlsmom did... Henry would sleep fine for morning nap but resist his afternoon nap. At first, he was a total mess by the end of the day. But he eventually got used to it and would take one long nap in the middle of the day. To start it would be about a 3hr nap from about 12-1 to 3-4. Now he sleeps anywhere from 1.5 to 3hrs. He sleeps for about 11hrs overnight.
thank you, ladies! i'm thinking she's trying to tell me she's ready.
K - i didn't forget about your girls! We ordered something 'personalized' and it seems to be taking an awfully long time to come in!
Don't even think about me, silly! You are too kind as it is! Good luck with the nap transitioning, I find they had some tired days, and some good days. I guess, just like even adults, do, right?
thanks for the words of wisdom! hmmm...maybe now that she's napping (FINALLY!!!) i'll track that package......
We just transitioned Josh a couple weeks ago. He is 12 months adjusted, 15 actual.
I am loving his new schedule. He sleeps from about 9pm-7 or 8am. Then he takes one long nap from at around 1230pm for a good 2-3 hours. Which I think is better than 2 short naps since I work at home and can get a ton of stuff done in 2-3 hours! We were having major bedtime issues when he would take 2 naps. Now he is so pooped by 9!
Goodluck!
by the way - Happy (early) 2nd Birthday to your little boy, Mambo1106!!! I hope you enjoy the day!
Mambo1106,
Happy 2nd Birthday to your little guy!!!!! Hope you guys have a wonderful and special day!!
My son is started to nap once a day sometimes. He's 15m, 12 1/2 adjusted. I still lay him down for both naps 11am and 2pm, but he's starting to take one at 12:30 after lunch. Maybe it's time to adjust his schedule.
I wish I could get a regular schedule down! My son isn't sleeping at night as well, used to be 8pm-8am or so and now it's 10 pm-6:30 am uugh with multiple wake ups inbetween! Naps are barely happening at all, I'll drive somewhere and he'll pass out in the car and the second I lay him down in his crib he's hysterical and refuses to go back to sleep, that's pretty much the entire day until he cries himself to sleep in the evening. He's also been in a TERRIBLE mood, just a complete grump!! Any advice?! He's 10.5 actual, 8.5 adjusted.
Ha ha ha! Well, if you ask daycre my boys only needed 0-1 naps most days at 6-8 months. When I pulled them from daycare at a year they took two naps just about every day. Our nap schedule has always been a bit inconcisistent due to therapies and dr appts, but if I remember right the boys were about 18 months old when they pretty consistently cut out the second nap. One book that I have really liked to give me an idea of what is typical at various ages is Ferber's book Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. This book gives a range of what is typical and I like that.
I have a 26wkr who is now 31/2. She has always slept a ton. I use to get concerned about it. She took two naps past 2yrs old. She does one nap now but its two hrs long and sometimes she will try to sleep longer. She still goes down for the night and sleeps all night. I always ask if she sleeps to much and they just say she must need it. If she doesnt get her nap you can tell.
Nevaeh-113 - you daughter is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! so pretty!
