Not swallowing food, storing in cheeks

0 Recommendations

My son, Beau who is now two and a half, is eating well, but sometimes does not swallow his food, he will store it in his cheeks. We have gone through the whole oral adversion, but thought we were past that. It just seems with some foods he chews it then, stores it in his cheeks. I know he can swallow, but not sure why he does this, any help??

My daughter also used to do this. Long story short, we eneded up taking her to a pediatric ENT who noticed that her tonsils were huge so we had them removed. All of the cheek storing of food (and vomiting) stopped.

Oh no! Welcome to my world! :( BOO. My son is 30months and is in feeding therapy 3x week for this. Its soo frustrating because he likes food, likes to chew it and also seems to like to spit it out. We try to alternate textures (at one meal...one bite puree, one bite chewy, one bite crunchy, drink...repeat) it helps a little bit. My son has had every test docs (ped, allergist, GI and ENT) can think to throw at him and all come back normal...so...???? He has GERD and BPD-meds daily for both.

Please PM me if you'd like to talk more.

My son did the same thing. Our OT thought it was due to his lack of jaw strength. Since he didn't have the strength to chew it up, he'd just keep it in his cheeks or spit it out. She had us work on jaw strengthening exercises with him.
