Infant car seats are easy to use without a base- just thread the seat belt through the guide slots on either side of the baby, latch the seat belt, pull it all the way out and let it slide back in, then it will be in the "stuck" position, so the car seat will be secure. Here's a youtube video on how to do it:

I live in NYC and don't have a car, so we don't even have a base for our seat. Good luck at the doctor's office!

Thanks Bklynmom for the reply but i have not found any slots on the car seat :(
just cross my fingers Not to go to emergency.

whats going on that u need to go to emergency?

Try looking on the bottom of the carseat for the instruction manual- there should be instructions on use without base- I'm pretty sure it's possible.

I had an infant seat that could not be used without the base. It was clearly stated in the manual. I would definitely read the directions.

If your car seat can be used without a base it will tell you in the carseat instruction manual and there will be a belt path on the car seat itself. If not, you will have to bring the base and strap it in to the taxi. Did you mean that your carseat was a Chicco Keyfit? The Cortina is a stroller they sell that fits the Keyfit carset. This is the instruction manual for the Keyfit 22. http://www.chiccousa.com/Files/pdf/product-manuals/KeyFit-Instructions-08.p df. I don't know what one you have. Page 37 of the manual tells you how to install the carseat without the base. I know this is a little late, but it might help you next time you have to take a taxi. :)
