My theory.. is it crazy?

I have this thoery that because I never had amniotic fluid (1-5 cm from 21-33 weeks) that my daughter never got the opportunity to practise swallowing like she should and maybe that's why she ended up needing a G-tube, for feeding insufficiency. She loves to suck, its the swallowing I personally think bothers her.

Also, how many children on here, who have G-tubes and just dont eat enough to grow, have been diagnosed with something neurological? That never crossed my mind until a post today that said a 38 weeker should be eating... and because he's not it could be neurological.
Raelyn was born at 33 weeks with a very uneventful NICU stay, it was all about feedings.

Probiotics Prevacid

My son was a 31wker w/ a G-tube, FTT. He has never been diagnosed w/ anything neurological (recent MRI was clear). He COULD eat, but wouldn't (swallow study and upper GI were fine). There were times where he would eat and we would think... you'd never know he has feeding issues, but those times were few and far between. I have had so many theories about feeding!!! For my son, it appears that discomfort is why he was self limiting. Since switching to Prevacid, he has improved significantly! Now we are working on the aversions that resulted from his discomfort.

Thought you might be interested in what a chiropractor told me... we have never taken Henry, but inquired w/ a friend of ours who is one. He said something to the effect that physical changes occur w/ a baby's face/mouth during vaginal delivery that impact the way a baby eats. Babies born to c-section, may not experience those changes. I have no idea the merit behind this but I have considered taking Henry to a chiropractor just to see... also b/c there are many people that believe that treatment from a chiropractor improves things such as digestion and sleep. Just food for thought...

What caused Henry to develop an oral adversion? Was it reflux discomfort or just trying to get him to eat?
Would it need to be a pediatric chiropractor?
My daughter was born at 8cm, with the doctors hands inside opening me as well, to avoid a C-section, maybe the tight area has an affect?

Thank you!

Oh, PS! I asked my daughter's doctor is probiotics/enzymes were safe for her(she has renal insufficiency, supposedly.. thats another LONG LONG story) and he told me he had never heard of them, nor how they had helped relfux?
So I never got my answer. I would love to start her on them, but I do not know if they are safe?
Any chance you would?

Supermom416 knows all about enzymes and probiotics, and yes, many preemies take them - weird your pediatirican doesn't know about them??? I would ask another pediatrician, maybe. Do you have several in the practice?

PLEASE READ: BABY COOPER-
My daughter has a G-TUBE and i had no fluid 1cm from 12 weeks-27 weeks. My daughter HATES eating and she barely ever drinks anything or eats baby food. I t is possible that that's the reason. I was told by the NICU RNS and NNP's that its because my daughter had the lungs of a 9 wk old fetus and tired out very quickly. She has taken whole bottles but only a few in the 7 months she has been home. She just doesn't seem interested she never cries about hunger either- when she visits her new PED i am going to ask about the neurologist as my daughters NT suggested CP but i don't think so she has no other factors leading to that assumption. My guess is that your baby is just having a little trouble with the coordination of SUCK SWALLOW BREATHE If i read correctly your baby is 38 weeks is that adjusted so her actual age would be 7 weeks? If so it's most likely that she is having trouble coordinating all three.

Just wanted to answer your question. Probiotics and enzymes are safe and very beneficial to practically anyone. Just make sure you get the right kind. For example, Udo's Choice makes an infant probiotic which has strains specifically for infants/toddlers. And for the enzymes, make sure they are plant based and just have the basic enzymes, no additives such as herbs or fillers.

You say she has renal insuffiency? Why do they think that?

Hopesmom: I was just saying a 38 weekers mom posted that NICU nurses stated that becase her child wasnt eating.. it could be neurological.
My daughter is 4 months actual on the 30th.. and 2.5 adjusted.

She doesnt show hunger cues like she USE to in the NICU when she was HG tube fed.. I think she is growing dependent..And she never had problems with her lungs.. thats why I think its simply the swallowing.. We start the G.I road next week. I dont force her at all, to try and not create an adversion. She use to take almost a whole bottle, but it has lessened over time.. and the times she did.. it was a struggle.

SUPERMOM:
Her lab levels when she were born were that of a child starting into renal failure. Creatinine was 2.2. They have slowly gotten lower. As of yesterday they are .6... I normal range.. and .4 is what we are shooting for. Her left kidney is pelvic, however. But as long as it is functioning 100% it should be fine. I am getting a second opnion if it does decrease the .2 it needs to. But from 2.2.. told it WOULD NEVER get below 1.2 and now its .6... I just dont know about this Doc.
And he is still calling for labs every 2 weeks, with her being so stable.. RIDICULOUS. My daughter is not a pin-cushion!
I will be ordering the probiotics and enzymes tomorrow. Are they given based on weight?
