My Isabella Rose, 28 weeks

0 Recommendations

After 10 long years of waiting we welcomed Isabella into our family in Feb. 2006 at only 28 weeks gestation. She was 28 weeks exactly. She weighed 2 lbs. 8 oz. and spent 3 longggggg months in the nicu. The whole nicu experience was personally so devasting to me I can't even bare to think about it. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do was leave my child every night. My doctor isn't sure why I went into labor so early. I went in for a visit and they discovered I was dialated to 5. I had thought I had been having braxton hicks (about a handful a day) they never streghthened or got closer together. I had read all the books during my pregnacy and new the signs of pre term labor but I had none of the signs.
My daughter is now 16 months and just a complete joy. The only way you'd know she was a preemie is of her size. She is so happy, bright and right on target developmentally (even ahead in some areas) buy is only 15 lbs. She has reflux and has never liked her bottle but she loves food of all kinds so thank God for that! She has had some issues with her growth and it is a struggle for us day to day to pack in as many calories as possible. Having a preemie and experiencing the nicu has let me see what an absolute miricle these little babies are. My daughter is my joy, my everything, my life and I thank God for every second I spend with her.
Your all in my thoughts and prayers, Isabella's mom Kimberly

Hi Kimberly! My son was born on 2/21/06 at 28 weeks exactly, weighed 2 lbs 8 ounces and spent 3 months in the NICU (actually the last month in the PICU because he got influenza). He also is little, but a bit bigger than Isabella at 20 pounds. He doesn't like to eat anything, so that is our struggle. Developmentally he is doing great and started walking like a champ a little over a week ago.

I sometimes feel I don't know anyone else "like me". It was nice to be able to compare notes with someone who was almost precisely in the same boat as us!!

Michele

Hi Michele,

Nice to hear from you. It sounds like our little one's have a few things in common. It's always comforting to hear from others who have been where I have been. To know there are others who've gone through similar situations.
My daughter was born on the 10th of Feb. The last month of her stay was due to feeding issues and a suspected milk allergy. So she should have come home a little earlier also.
I'm glad to hear your son is doing good! My daughter is doing very good also and has taken off with walking (sometimes running). My daughter is still not the best eater either. I have found myself at times crying tears of joy when she eats good for me. It' s so funny the things you find joy in when you have children, expecially a preemie.
If you'd like to email me my address is kimbyonamission@aol.com
I'd love to hear more about your experience or even compare notes. It's hard to relate sometimes to friends and family of full term babies. Some of the issues are similar but it is still so different.
Take care and congrats on your son, Kimberly
