how much milk at 15 months?

0 Recommendations

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you knew how much milk a 15 month old should be consuming in a 24 hour period? My daughter is 18 months (15 adjusted) and I'm not sure how much she should be drinking. She doesn't go to her doctor for another week. She has never liked taking her bottle and here lately hasn't wanted it as much. I can only get her to take 16- 24 oz. and on most days around 20oz. I just wonder when I can relax a little on the milk and not try to squeeze in every ounce? I know it is still good for her but don't want to drown her appetite either. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi,
I have a 24 weeker who is now also 18 months (14months corrected), he takes about 20-24 ounces of whole milk. He eats a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack. He takes a bottle of 4oz when he gets up in the morning, then about 3-4oz at morning nap, 3-4oz at afternoon nap, then we give him 3 oz of gerber fruit smoothie juice (an entire serving of fruit!) and he takes another 4-5oz of milk at bedtime. We are still trying to transition to a sippie cup so most of the time he takes a bottle.

I think as long as you little one is eating enough solid food during the day 16-24oz of milk is fine. If I absolutely can't get my son to eat anything, like when he is cutting another tooth and is in pain, then I give him more milk and sometimes add a half packet of carnation instant breakfast (our pedi told us to do this for added nutrition) and he likes that.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

The nutritionists we have seen, as well as the pediatricians, all have said that around the age of your child ( if not alittle earlier) it should be about 16 oz. a day of milk or soymilk that they should be drinking.

Plus, if you haven't already, start trying to teach her to take a cup. It was stressed to us ( our introduced to using a sippy cup. The dentist that we took our son too also said so, so it seems to be the consensus nowadays.

I found this site that has some good info for feeding babies:

Good luck, and it sounds like your baby is already on the right track!

Our nutricionist said that when they are in that age, they should not take more than 16 or 20 ounces, that is if they eat the right amount if solids, and gaining weight.

Every baby is different, specially preemies. In our case our baby doesn't like the milk alone, so i have to be creative, like homemade pudim, differents cereal, mashed potatoes whith chesse and milk, oatmeal, cream wheat, and things like that. And she is fine in weight ( in the last 4 months)

Thank you for the information and advice. I actually feel releived knowing she is taking the right amount. She came home from the nicu with her feeding tube still in her nose last may and it was a struggle to get her milk/formula in her. I actually have been trying to switch to a cup but she will only take her juice or water from the cupn and not her milk. She also just likes her milk warmed still! I know I need to break her of that and am going to very soon. She seems to like cups with straws or those juicy juice waters that come in a box with a straw so maybe I'll try putting her milk in a cup with a straw. Well anyways thank you for all your comments!
take care,
Kimberly
