Ok~ my name is Denise. I am on my 4th pregnancy (3rd viable). I had some light early contractions with 1st baby and got brethine pills sent home and lots of bleeding. Stopped taking at 37 weeks and went right into labor (different O B). Lost 2nd pregnancy at 11 weeks. 3rd pregnancy had preterm labor twice around 28 weeks and again at 35 weeks. Was given Steroids, mag, brethine, I VS and had him at 36 weeks. He was completely healthy other than a rare skin disease that has nothing to do with preterm stuff. Now I am with same doc and have had preterm labor since 22 weeks. Had to see an on call doc labor day weekend and he was very concerned. was 50 % efaced and 1 cm. Was put on bedrest and given a few shots of brethine. Since then my doc pretty much took me off bedrest cuz he said he considers me a normal pregnancy??? I had BV this pregnancy and was in hosp again (for the 4th time) over the weekend with "uterine irriability".No shots, no IV, no nothing except monitoring. I am having contractions as i type. My doc has in his chart that I am 1 cm on outside and closed on inside? I am confused because of what I was told labor day weekend. I don't want to change doctors because of money issues I think I should make an app to just ask questions and let him know my concerns. What do you think? A few of my friends say their docs would keep them on bedrest and be more aggressive. Oh and by the way we live in a small town and they only deliver 36 weeks and up. We have to go an hour and a half away to deliver. I have had no steroids this time yet either. Please can anyone give me advice?? I am so frustrated! I hope this all makes sense. I have kept myself on bedrest because I know my body and I have more contractions when I am up and around. I have told doc this and he giggles and tells me to stop worrying! That makes me mad! UGH!!! Help!

I had preterm labor at 26 weeks - contractions and uterine irrability. I was on strict hospital bedrest for a week, and b/c the medication was working, they sent me home on bedrest. My doctors were very conservative - kept me on niphetapine until I ended up delivering b/c of Pre-E. Yes, I think your doctor is not paying as much attention to you as he should. Yes, most people in your situation would have had steriods and would be on medication to stop the contractions. Is there another doctor in the practice that you can see? If not, I would tell you the SAFEST route would be to see another doctor at the hospital further away. I know that's tough for you. At least you need to voice your concerns with this current doctor and try to get another opinion. Good luck.
Also - tell him he is offensive for giggling - what a jerk! You should be mad, but try to focus on staying pregnant - sounds like you're taking the first step.

thanks for the info! I went to doc today and he checked me again and said 1 cm on outside and closed on inside?? He said other doc and 3 nurses were wrong??? Now I am not sure who to believe.UGH! He checked me for BV again and It was good. I voiced my concerns about no steroids and brethine and he just said "I think you will go all the way without all that stuff"?? Well for his sake I hope hes right!!!!!!! Doesn't even think I should be on bedrest!

I agree with mygirlsmom........see if there's a maternal fetal medicine specialist doctor at the hospital father away.

Another option might be to go back to your doc and explain that you heard his position, but you cannot shake the feeling that you need more.

I definitely support you in listening to your body and trusting yourself.
