We r taking our little Domenic to the GI doctor today. Hopefully we will get some answers, he is just in so much pain after he eats he cant get comfortable and doesnt sleep much which is so hard for us and him!! We have tried different formulas and he is actually picky and doesnt like certain ones. We r on similac sensitive right now and he is just so uncomfortable all of the time. So wish us luck today, hopefully we can help him be more comfortable.

Good luck! I hope the appointment goes well and you all get some suggestions on things to try!

I hope it goes well. I have actually been dealing with some of the same issues. Reflux is killer! It is about driving our family crazy... Hopefully the GI has some answers. I am still looking.

Jen8825,

How did the appointment go?

My baby is so miserable too, I have been asking for a GI consult for months and our dumb ped wants to handle it himself. We are going back in tomorrow and demanding a GI consult, and nutrition, and speech therapy. Our son is barely eating and is losing weight, he is probably failure to thrive by now. You can hear his little tummy rumbling across the room, he pukes all the time. Im giving him breast milk and not eating milk products or soy and it still isn't helping. He throws up all the meds we give him. My milk is drying up because im so stressed. If you can please post how it goes. Good luck. I hope they outgrow this soon!

one of my 25 week twins was having reflux and getting prilosec. we stopped it around 7 months actual, base on a recommendation from a neonatalogist staffing the developmental clinic and saw no difference. now that she is starting to eat baby foods, we are seeing less. she is still getting enfamil enfacare.

We went to the GI doc on Tuesday and she put Dom on Zantac for acid reflux, and so far it seems to be helping and she has us testing his stools for three days to see if he has a milk allergy so we might have to switch formulas as well if it comes back positive. He is 8lbs 8 ounces already.

My son has a milk protein allergy and severe GERD (reflux disease) and when he was on formula we did Similac Alimentum for awhile but even that still caused him to have blood in his stool so he went onto another more elemental formula (can't remember the name, sorry) but it really helped him. He also took prevacid and prevacid has been really great for my son. Zantac never worked for him. So if you're still having issues I would maybe ask about prevacid. GL!

My son also has a milk protein allergy and severe GERD. I agree with mipsy, if it seems like your son is still having trouble, ask about switching reflux meds. Zantac is usually the first line of defense, but doesn't often do the trick. I also highly recommend Prevacid. My son was on Prilosec for over a yr and I thought it was controlling his reflux. We switched drs who recommended Prevacid and my son is a different child!

For the allergy, I was pumping for my son, so I had to go dairy free as well. We were supplementing w/ a hypoallergenic formula (pregestimil), which still contains milk proteins. He was so sensitive at the time and was unable to tolerate elemental formulas (we tried Nutramigen AA and Elecare). (BTW - Nutramigen AA has MSG in it!) We also had him tested for soy, which came back negative (about half of babies who have cows milk allergy also have a soy allergy). Fortunately, switching to soy helped him a lot. Hope this is helpful!
