first baby a 28 weeker and now 2 miscarriages

My beautiful two year old daughter was born at 28 weeks because I developed preeclampsia. Very scary stuff as I am sure many of you out there are familiar with. While in the hospital after the c-section they discovered I have a blood disease called antiphospholipid syndrome. Of course with all these issues going on I am considered a high risk pregnancy as most of us here are. So I got pregnant in June and after almost a week of knowing had a miscarriage, around 5 weeks. I am currently waiting to have another miscarriage. At 6 weeks I went in and the heartbeat was low and after three more ultrasounds where we watched it getting lower there is nothing left. I would be almost 11 weeks so I may have to have d & c soon if nothing happens.

So because of my history miscarriages are common so the plan is to be on heparin for the pregnancy starting around 7 weeks. I am just curious if any of you have similar experiences with miscarriages and how it was handled. Also if you were ever on heparin for your pregnancy when did you start it?

I'm so sorry for your losses. I thankfully did not have a problem with miscarriages but I was diagnosed with a clotting problem while trying to get pregnant with my second and therefore needed heparin. We needed IUI to get pregnant and I believe I started the heparin right after. I did it for 3 months, then was switched to a baby aspirin for the rest of my pregnancy.

I have had 2 miscarriages - one at 5 weeks and one at 8 weeks. The 3rd time I got pregnant, we had Megan at 25 weeks. Turns out I have a bicornuate uterus and an incompetent cervix. The doctors really didn't treat any of my pregnancies differently. They found out about my bicornuate during my 2nd miscarriage and found out about the incompetent cervix when Megan was born early.

My son was born at 27 weeks and I am just now going through my second miscarriage since. This one was at 5 weeks the last one was at 8 weeks. For the first one my specialist didn't want to do a D & C and it took three months for it to pass naturally.
Sorry I don't have an answer to your question, but I wanted you to know that you are not alone. I'd love to hear some success stories and advice from others.

I am sorry for your prior and pending loss. The waiting just sounds horrible, I ache for you. I do not know whether I have had a miscarriage because there were two times my doctor wanted me to have a Hcg level drawn because of being late on my period and excessive bleeding, I chose not to because I didn't want the confirmation. Prior to fertility treatments with my son, lab results showed my anti-cardiolipid antibody was elevated so I was put on a baby aspirin prior to the IVF and remained on it throughout my pregnancy. I had him at 27wks d/t severe HELLP syndrome d/t preE. Before my recent fertility treatment more lab work was done because of my history. I had a thrombophilia panel done which showed Factor V leiden and again the anti-cardiolipin antibody was elevated (higher this time) so I too was diagnosed with APS. Prior to the insemination I started aspirin and they told me at 6wks I would start Lovenox (a low-molecular weight heparin) because it is easier to monitor and has fewer side effects then regular heparin. I did start at 6wks, am currently 16wks, and the plan is to take it until delivery if not a few months longer because the risk of clots increases with child birth. I had this hematology work-up after having my son and one part showed my blood has an 180% higher risk of clots then normal. I also have been on blood pressure meds with the goal of keeping my bp less then 130/80. So far things seem to be going well. At the start of the third trimester the plan is bed rest until delivery.

hi hun im sorry for your losses im posting to hopefully give you some hope ive had 6 mc 1 chemical and a preemie son born 31 weeks i too have to take baby aspirin and heparin im, currently pregnant again 6 weeks and paraying for a happy ending but i started these meds when i was pg with my son and he's here today good luck with the future! xx

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the support. I am now 25 weeks pregnant and everything is going well. I take a low dose aspirin once a day and lovenox shots two times a day. They started me between 7 and 8 weeks. I am just supposed to stay on this course unless something happens. Thankfully I have had no swelling at all, expect in my belly, and my blood pressure has been in the 120s/70-80s. Just lovely!

To worriedmummy I am praying for your pregnancy to be a happy one and uneventful one this time around. Keep up the positive thoughts!

My daughter was born at 25 weeks due to HELLP. After blood work was done and it was found that I have a clotting disorder. I had a mc at 7 weeks in March, and am currently almost 18 weeks. I also take a baby aspirin and 2 shots of heparin a day, and so far so good. No swelling and my bp's have not been higher than 108/70. I am happy to hear that things are going well for you, and hope that they continue to do so!
