My mom had fibroids during her pregnancy with me, but they did not affect it (I was 2 weeks late, in fact). I had bleeding during my pregnancy at around 10 weeks and 12 weeks, but it was caused by a partial placental abruption. Later, I got severe pre-e, but there is no known connection between abruptions and pre-e, so it was probably just a co-incidence.

I actually had two golf ball sized fibroids removed during my c-section. I did have some bleeding throughout the first trimester with an unknown cause. Otherwise, the fibroids did not cause any problems. They are very common and usually benign unless they get too big and get in the way of baby. Good luck

Thanks guys,I guess I just have to wait and see what happens.

I don't want to scare you with my story...but I'm told it's not normal:

I had some minor bleeding in my first trimester, but everything was going well otherwise. At my 20 week ultrasound they found that I had 3 fibroids, one of which was 7 cm. When my doctor told me the results, she said that 1 in 3 women have fibroids and they usually never pose a problem during pregnancy. They do tend to grow though from the hormones. My large fibroid was off to the side so she didn't see any reason to think it would have any affect on my pregnancy. At 24 weeks I started having major pain which I figured was the fibroid degenerating (losing blood supply). The pain got severe enough to go to see my doctor. After doing an ultrasound they found that my cervix was only 1 cm wide (way too thin) so they admitted me to the hospital. I ended up having my son at 25 weeks 2 days. Although they will never be sure, they blame his preterm birth on the fibroid causing pressure on my cervix.

So now that you are scared, please know that for most women, fibroids do not lead to any pregnancy problems. My doctor only expected me to have some minor pain from them and nothing else. I know it's scary when there is something else growing in there besides a baby. Some questions you might want to ask is where the fibroid is located. If it is near the opening to the cervix it can cause problems. You might also want to ask what the size of the fibroids are. Again, my story is out of the ordinary!

I dont think anything can scare me after my previous pregnancy-I had chronic abruption and bled the entire pregnancy,I had my daughter at 27 weeks.I didnt exactly planned for this one but it happened and all I got to do is deal with it now.Thats why I appreciate any input and info,I want to be prepared.I think my fibroid is near the cervix-sigh...Thanks for sharing anyway.

Chronic abruption seems way scarier!

Sometimes a fibroid near the cervix can just mean that you will have a higher chance of needed a csection. I remember my doctor saying that she has had women with fibroids near the cervix and she was able to just kind of push it aside during childbirth. (a lovely thought, I know). I will be having surgery next summer to remove my fibroids in hopes of avoiding another preterm birth in the furture.

I am going to have a c-section regardless because my last one was a vertical incision.I just dont want to bleed through the whole pregnancy.Good luck with your surgery!

My sister had fibroid and today she delivered a FT baby via C-section. Her pregnancy was lil painful cause of fibroid but it was manageable. she is gynac/

Its good to know the positive outcome, congrats to your sister.Did she bleed at all during pregnancy?

I had fibroids through my two pregnancies - and still have them. Because of the fibroids, I had a irritable cervix which caused contractions throughout the months of my 1st pregnancy , with my second pregnancy I was on the progestrogen shots to prevent the heavy contractions. I have heard that fibroids cause abruptions - but I did not suffer this, sorry to hear you suffered this with your last pregnancy. The fibroids do cause bleeding and with my 1st I bleed a lot - because my lil one liked to kick at the fibroids which caused them to burst - very PAINFUL!!! I wish you the best!! hope you carry to term with this one.

Thanks for encouraging words. How is your little one doing?

Hi Ann. I really appreciate your post because there is a possibility that I am expecting and I also have uterine fibroid tumors that have caused me severe pain during previous menses. So far I have experienced irregular timing and irregular flow (what I believed was my period was significantly shorter and more brown at first and spotty mostly) and nausea with no throwing up and very crampy with unusually light pinkish flow.

I believe it has been about 4 weeks to the date and my boobs are really itchy lately as well.

Do u or anyone reading this remember having any of the same kind of changes in your body during your first 4 weeks of pregnancy?

And did you experience crampiness also?

Forgive me for repeating this post I am getting use to this website,

The reason my son was born so early was b/c of a fibroid. Not to scare you, it was really the position of the fibroid that caused everything. It was located on top of my cervix and grew to the size of a canalope and casued my cervix to prematurley dialate. which in return caused my son to come early. anywhere else in my body it would have probably been fine. ALso, they only other things I experienced during my pregnancy was nausea during the first trimester, other then that I felt completely normal. I was also on hospital bed rest until he came...14 weeks early.

ohh how i remember that 1st trimester hassansmommy, the puking on the floor part because ya could not quite make it to the toilet on time lol

Just wanted to update things- the doctors now think its not a fibroid but a subchorionic hematoma-thats there all the bleeding comes from.I have been bleeding since my original post and now 17 weeks along, baby seems to be ok for now.I think I am probably looking at having another preemie. Its still good to know info about fibroids, you never know.
