exclusive breast feeding and full-time worker

0 Recommendations

okay, so when Hassan was in the hospital I pumped every 3-4 hours. I had a GREAT supply my freezer was full so was the NICU's. Ever since Hassan's been home I don't pump obviously b/c put him start to breast. I work full-time so my boyfriend gives gim all the bottles that I have frozen and I still pump but only once at work and just increased it to two times. Now its almost gone and im so worried b/c Im not getting as much as I was when I pump. Any advice besides pumping/breastfeeding more, I already have been donig that. I feel very strongly about him being breastmilk only until at LEAST 1 year!

Breast feeding

Good job on your commitment to breast feeding! When you switched to breast feeding your baby probably took less milk than what you were expressing pumping around the clock leaving milk sitting in you breast. Milk actually contains a hormone that tells your breasts to decrease milk production, so if you have leftover milk it is telling your body "it's too much, decrease the supply". When babies have growth spurts they spend more time at the breast and feed more frequently too. if you want your breasts to produce more milk you need to simulate this. You can still breast feed on demand but after the feeding pump for an additional amount of time. Manual milk expression has also been shown to increase supply by up to 80 percent, often pumps cant get that last amount of milk so after pumping express more with your hands. You can also pump an extra time during the day. Manual expression made the biggest difference for me. Its important to get your breasts as empty as possible with each feed. I hope this helps and you are able to store more. Good luck.

I wish there were some magic way but breastmilk supply is directly related to demand. So pumping and nursing is all that will increase your supply. Just know that you are doing the best thing for your baby by nursing!! It's liquid gold!!!

My supply started to decrease as soon as Violet came home from the NICU. When her freezer stash was down to about 2 weeks worth, I started to panic. It is VERY HARD to breastfeed, pump and bottlefeed...and WORK! I was willing to do anything and it did not seem to matter how much I pumped...it was not working. I had to resort to herbs and medication. I ordered Domperidone from Inhouse pharmacy (on-line) in New Zeland and it works wonderful. My freezer is full again and I produce more than enough. I also started with More Milk Plus herbal blend. I have since stopped the herbs because I don't need them, but I think they helped initially. Good luck

Rest as much as you can, eat oatmeal, get plenty of water, and eat plenty of protein. These are the best things you can do to increase supply, other than nurse and pump.

How awesome that you were able to build a stash in NICU. When Trinity came home we had no milk in the freezer. Every time I pumped it was for her next feeding (she learned to latch 3 weeks after coming home). It's taken me months to build any kind of freezer stash.

The two things that most helped my supply: drinking LOTS of water and pumping for a few minutes each time AFTER I had stopped getting any more. Those few extra minutes tell your body that your baby needs more milk. Even if you can't squeeze another session into your shift at work (I know it can be really hard!), adding just a couple of minutes to the two sessions you do could really help.

I've started doing most of the things all of you have shared, except the More Milk PLus and Domperidone, which I am going tomorrow to get the More Milk Plus! Thanks all, Im so glad I found this site, I always listen to what you all advise!

Has anyone ever tried to Tea thats suppost to help produce more milk, Im assuming it has some of the same herbs that the More MIlk PLus has? Im gonna try that also...even though I hate tea!
