EMERGENCY SURGERY!

0 Recommendations

My daughter went in yesterday to get her Mic-key button placed. Well little did I know things could go wrong, was no briefed.. nor signed any consents. Well it went wrong, the stomach lining seperated from the abdomen wall. She was screaming to the point of holding her breath, I KNEW something was wrong. The doctor assured me she fine and said that if her feeds were uncomfortable to let her know.. I fed her there!!
She was in so much pain, she has never acted like that before.
She went to the hospital to have an x-ray to see what was going on, low and behold the linings seperated.
She was leaking gastric juices.. an infection was starting. Emergency surgery was planned.. but didnt have for 7 hours (meanwhile Raelyn was screamin the ENTIRE time and was not getting anything to keep her hydrated.)
We are here in the PICU. She is off of the ventilator and is stable.. just in ALOT of pain.
They had to make an incision to fix what they messed up. It makes me SO mad to know she is getting paid for her MISTAKE!
I know doctors make mistakes but I wasnt warned.. and if I was.. I would of waited MANY more weeks to ENSURE it was fully healed.
My birthday is tomorrow and this is how we will be spending. They said we wont be home till after the weekend..

My poor babygirl. She doesn't deserve this!

Oh my. So sorry that happened to her. Am wishing her a swift recover! Is she at UMC or TMC?

You are in my prayers. I am sooo sorry this has happened. I can't imagine how infuriated you are!! We are here for you, mommy. Recover soon, sweet girl.

TMC.
I am more than infuriated. I should of had to sign a consent form if there were possible risks involved. Because I was not asked, I assumed it was a simple outpatient procedure. I am glad I follwed my gut and didnt simply just drive home with a crying baby. I knew something was wrong, regardless of how much she wanted to disagree. Needless to say, we will not be seeing her.. and my husband wants to take legal action.

She now has a permanantely sewn stomach... I didn't want ANYTHING permanent. Half of these nurses have never heard of this before, but the doctor admitted it happens a few times a year. That's enough to have a consent form, dont ya think?

I am so sorry this happened to you. I am an RN and will say that a consent form is supposed to be signed for all surgical procedures. The doctor is supposed to go over the procedure, the pro's and con's and alternatives. He/She is also supposed to let you know about the risks. You either sign the consent with the MD, or the Nurse..but the MD is responsible for giving you the information. I wonder if the nurse slipped the consent in without the doc explaining the risks and benefits?? I would definitely ask to see the consent form ASAP. Yes, mistakes do happen, but you should have been aware of the risks. I hope your baby feels better soon.

That poor lil girl! What an ordeal. I hope she's feeling better very soon!

Wishing for a healthy and speedy recovery.

You have to be given and informed consent whether it be via phone or on paper. if they did not give you one they messed up severely. During the consent they tell you the risks. You usually sign 2 or 3 of them. One for the procedure, one for the anthesisa, and one for photo consent. Did you sign anything? I hope she has a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry your little one is going through this!
I hope she is well again soon.

I am sorry. I would like for yo uto be aware of this also. When my daughter recieved her MIC key i asked if it would hurt her belly time they said no she can play all she wants on her tummy. A fewmonths later my friends twins both had to go backin for surgery because of their stomach linings becoming thinner or something and she called to tell me that i was right and to make sure that Hope was ok. My daughter dones;t like to play on her belly. But it may as well happen to those of you whose baby love to play on the floor so watch those buttons. Good luck Baby cooper.

How would I know if the lining was thinning? Now I am terrified to put her on her tummy at all?!

She wont be getting the MIC-KEY for some time, since she is just now recovering. We are gonna be behind on tummy time I can tell and she hates it soo much!

Oh how scary! Im soo sorry. ((hugs!))

hope she gets well soon..lol
