Hello Everyone, I'm new to this site and excited to share my story! My son Grayer was born August 30, 2009 at 25 weeks and 4 days gestation. His original due date was December 10, 2009. He has been in the NICU for over 8 weeks now and is just excelling!! He will be 34 weeks on Wednesday and now weighs 3lbs 10oz! When he was born, he was 1lb 15oz & 13 1/2 inch. Has anyone else experience a premature baby born around the time my lil man was? I'd love to hear some stories and meet people who've been in our shoes.

Congratulations on your baby boy :) My daughter, Megan, was also born on 25 weeks, 4 days. She weight 1 lb 13.5 oz and spent 76 days in the NICU. She came home at 4 lbs 15 oz on an apnea monitor. I did write a blog when she was in the NICU at

www.meganfoster.blogspot.com

We did have a roller coaster while she was in the NICU, but looking back, she did very well. She is now 27 months old and your everyday walking, running, talking, tantrum throwing, loving toddler :) Early Intervention was a priceless resource! She had fantastic therapists that helped her with gross/fine motor skills. They also gave me great guidance about being a Mom :D She tested out of Early Intervention at about 20 months (17 months adjusted).

Congrats again on your little boy! Sounds like you are nearing the time that you can cuddle and snuggle with him at home - without the beeping, the driving, the schedules, etc. It is an amazing thing!! :D

Congratulations on your baby!! My Zach was born at 25 weeks, 6 days at 1 lb 11 oz. He is now 7 weeks adjusted & 8 lbs 2 oz. He just came home on Wed. He would have been home closer to his due date, but needed a second surgery to reattach his intestines (had had a muconium plug & had surgery at 28 days old). We had a great comment from one of the nurses before we left, she said "he is the most normal looking 25 weeker I have ever seen". It has been a long road, but much better now. Sounds like you are having an easier time of it than we did. I have a blog detailing everything www.caringbridge.org/visit/zacharysokol if you want to read up.

It's great that you found this site, the people on here have been so helpful when I have had questions or just needed to vent.

I'm very tired right now, but it is great to have my baby home, you will be there soon!

Our son Henry was born 1 lb 3.65 ozs at 25 weeks 2 days. He had a lot of ups and downs in the NICU. Here are some threads that I posted when he was 2 years actual and 2 year adjusted:

He is a very exuberant 2 year old (26.5 months adjusted). His latest phrase: "I want restitution!"

Welcome to the site! CONGRATS on the birth of your little one!! Wishing you lots of luck!!! :)

Congratulations! My daughter was born in March 2006 at 26w4d weighing 575gr (1 lb 4 oz). She was in the NICU for 100 days, on a ventilator for 67 days, CPAP for 10 and came home with supplemental O2. You can read about her at:

Congrats....am new here and I love to read what people write cuz it make me see how everyone connect how everyone have a different and u can compare stories. Am new am sorry for my spelling and english bu is not my first language. Am 25 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I have been in the hospital since Friday. Am 1cm dilated already. I have to be in bed rest. Am just hoping my little one would stay there until is safe for him to be born. How would u describe what u when thru and how things are now?
Bu congrats for what u wrote it look like your baby is doing good. God bless u and your family.

My son was also born at 25 weeks 4 days and 1 lb. 14 oz. Like others have said, the NICU is a rollercoaster. We had it relatively easy. Owen didn't have many major obstacles, he spent time on the ventilator, then CPAP, and back and forth between the two. He did have pnemonia once, but came through that well. He came home at 38 weeks 2 days, so about 2 weeks before his due date. He is not on oxygen or an apnea monitor. At 2 months adjusted, he was 10 lbs. 5.5 oz. His biggest problem is eating, which he is screaming about right now! Best wishes to you and your little one.

My twins were born at 25 weeks 3 days on August 29, 2008. They were 1 pound 9 oz each. They were in the NICU for 5 months. It was a difficult time with a lot of ups and downs. Just take each day as it comes and don't lose hope.

Welcome and Congrats! You're lil man sounds like a trooper. Keep it up lil guy!!!

My son was also a 25 weeker born in nov of 06 . His weight was 2lbs 7 oz but it was a lot of fluid so he went down to 1lbs 12 oz. He had a lot of ups and downs but after 4 and 1/2 mths he came home on oxgen and a monatier. Now at also 3 and a lot of help threw e/i he is almost caught up. My advice take it one day at a time, ask a lot of questions, read and know that life has forever changed you now have a new kind of normel.

My daughter was born 9/22/09 at 25 weeks 6 days. Born at 1lb 7 oz and 13 inches. We are on week 30 and she is now 2lb 3oz and 14.5 inches.

We've had a rollercoaster ride. She is just getting over an Ecoli and Staph infection that she had since birth. She has a grade II and a grade IV brain bleed that has remained unchanged since birth. We extubated her 3 days ago and she is on the CPAP and doing well.

You'll love this site! I've found it very informative and found a lot of support (especially during our downward rollercoaster ride).

Welcome!

My son was born May 31st at 30 weeks 3 days (due August 6th) We had a long rocky ride in the NICU, he had grade III-IV ivh w/ hydrocephalus and had 3 surgeries on his brain, he had RDS and BPD, NEC scare and was in the NICU for 73 days, came home 5 days after his due date on Aug 11th.
He has been doing fantastic since he came home growing like a weed and couldnt be happier. He is on track with his corrected age. We are working with an OT and PT through EI.
Hope things continue to go well for you little one and you will definately find this site helpful!

Thank you all for sharing your stories! Grayer is 34 weeks today, weighing in at 3lbs 12oz!! He will be officially 2 months old this Friday! He is just excelling everyday and we are truly blessed to have him in our lives! I will have put up a post on how Grayer came into this world. Thank you again for all your stories and kind words! I'm so glad I came across this site! Thank you again!

I am also new to the site. I've had a similar experience. My daughter was born 16 weeks early and weighed 1pound 6 oz. She is still in the NICU after 4 months and 6 days.

She has been through a lot, including PDA ligation surgery, candida, surgical nec and several other infections. She is now breathing on her own, and starting to eat again after her reconnection surgery last week. Her doctor actually said the words today "when she goes home" and even though I know it wont be for at least another month... the fact that he said the words made me cry with joy.

It's nice to meet you and everyone here. :)

Congratulations on your bay boy. My son was born 25wks 5 days on August 21, 2009 so just a few days before yours. We have been in the NICU since and it has been a roller coaster. We are now on the downhill side towards going home. I am glad to hear your son is doing great. I hope you find this site as useful as I have. I have posted a caring page for my little one on his progress at www.caringbridge.org/visit/danielwarren3. I wish your family the best and the new adventures to come.

Welcome, this site is a wealth of knowledge and support! My Lily was born 25 and 5 days, weighed 1 pound 5 oz. She came home 2 weeks before her due date. She is now almost 3 1/2 and is excelling! She is in the 33% for height and weight, but is developmentally ahead for her age. It was so hard in the beginning, but each milestone means so much more!! Congratulations!!!

My Abby was born on August 6th at 25 weeks 5 days. She is 12 weeks old today! She is also doing very well, thankfully! She's been moved from the NICU to the step-down unit, and as the doctor said yesterday just needs to "eat her way out". As soon as she is taking all of her feedings by bottle, we can take her home!! Congratulations on your little man! It sounds like he is doing great and you have a lot of positive energy. Keep it up and next thing you know he'll be home with you!

Welcome and congratulations on your little miracle! My daughter was a 24 weeker born at 1 lb 3 oz. She is now 11 months old (7 adjusted) and has been off of all medication and oxygen since a month after she came home. I am glad your son is doing so well.
