Ok so I havent posted in while. My son Jacob was diagnosed with subglottic stenosis(narrowing in the airway due to et tube) about 2 months ago. After undergoing a cricoid split he came off the ventilator and was doing amazing. He then developed gall stones and had to have his gall bladder removed he had to be r-intubated which caused further damage to the airway. We decided to trach him last Monday because his airway kept collapsing and we could'nt keep putting him through procedures that may or may not work. He is doing great on it and has been off the vent since tuesday. We will be coming home with the trach in about a week and he will keep the trach through this spring in order to give his airway time to grow. I have two ?s. Has anyone ever dealt with a trached baby and my husband and I are scheduled to go to a youth workers conference in Nashville in November. Jacob will not be held or touched by anyone there, only adults wil be attending and we will be staying in a hotel I dont want to leave him with anyone due to the sepcial needs of the trach. Would it be ok for us to take him if I keep people away from him. He will have gotten his RSV shot in October. Thanks
