The book I read that my MIL bought I think is one of the most informative books i have read. Its really big but its actually a pretty easy read. Its called "PREEMIES The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies" The authors listed are Dana Wechsler Linden, Emma Trenti Paroli, and Mia Wechsler Doron, M.D. I believe at least one of the docs that wrote it has had a preemie. This book was a lifesaver for me during Ethans 2 months in the NICU. It covered every test, every piece of machinery, every everything. So as you can tell by my rambling I highly recommend it. I think NICU's should have copies of this book on hand for parents to read and/or purchase.

I second that suggestion. The "The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies" was recommend to us by one of the nurse practitioners in the NICU. They use it as one of the books to train the new potential NICU nurses when they are in school. It is a very accessible book.

I agree with their recommendations. Even months after our NICU stay, I still find that "The Essential Guide" is a helpful resource. It covers everything about the NICU, but also includes information on life after the NICU. It is definitely a good purchase.

I couldn't agree more. PREEMIES - The Essential Guide..." (http://www.amazon.com/Preemies-Essential-Parents-Premature-Babies/dp/067103 491X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208013776&sr=8-1) is a wonderful book and it's the one over used the most. Another book I sometimes use and really like is called The Preemie Parents' Companion by Susan L. Madden. (http://www.amazon.com/Preemie-Parents-Companion-Essential-Premature/dp/1558 321357/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208013637&sr=8-1)I think we ordered both of these books from Amazon.com, but I've also purchased PREEMIES at Borders for a friend of mine.
My preemies are 4 and 6 now and these books are only just becoming obsolete!

p.s. I meant that the books are becoming obsolete for *us*. I don't think they're at all obsolete for parents of younger preemies!

I also agree - "The essential Guide.." has been and continues to be very helpful. I would sit and just ready through it during the NICU time and first home - now i still use it for reference.

Hi I am actually reading one now more about the emotional factor for your self and your partner. I got it on Amazon.com and it coveres from pregnancy to after nicu it is wonderfull at explaining all the emotions and feelings you go thru it is Preemie Parents Recovering From Babies Premature Birth By Michelle McDermott-Perez. I am reading it now and my 26 weeker is 4 and i am finding it a great resource.

I read "The Preemie Book" by Dr. Sears and LOVED IT!!! Check it out! I love Dr. Sears because he is very pro-breastfeeding and sold me on attatchment parenting!

We also read that book it was wonderful and VERY useful. It will help you with the questions you have about the NICU but also it was a great resource. Bless you and your little one.

I couldn't agree more with those who have already recommended "PREEMIES The Essential Guide for Parents of Premature Babies" !!!! It is an excellent book. My sister bought it for me the day after the unexpected birth of my 26 weeker. It was so helpful in explaining things. It gives you the medical terms so you can understand what the doctors & nurses are talking about, but also explains it in layman's terms, making it easy to understand. Looking through the book gave me an idea of what to expect & allowed me to ask educated questions of my baby's healthcare team.
