Bedrest 24 Weeks

0 Recommendations

Hello fellow preemie parents! I haven't posted much but I've replied to a few of you in the past. I am currently 24 weeks pregnant with my second little boy. My son Jaxson was born at 30 weeks Aug. 18, 2007. This pregnancy has been going well (much better than my first) although I had a cerclage placed at 12 weeks after they found my cervix is short. All has been well since, until 2 weeks ago my peri found through U/S that I have slight funneling. So... here I am on bedrest until maybe 36 weeks when my cerclage comes out. So far I feel pretty good. If there are any other bedrest mommies out there, maybe we could chat! Wish me luck! Only 11 weeks 2 days... not that I'm counting or anything. Thanks!!!

Ann

WOOHOO for cerclages! Wishing you a wonderful 11+wks hehe.

Hi,

When I was on bedrest my doctor told me to go on sidelined.com or something similar to that. It is a site for women on bedrest. I never did check out the site but wanted to pass it along because my son came very early. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

Thank you ladies! I am just grateful that I'm still pregnant and seem to be doing well. I can handle the long-term bedrest if it means no NICU time! That was not fun. My son was in the NICU till his due date... 68 days. So every day and week I check off the better! I'll keep you posted. :) 25 weeks Friday!

Hi, Ann!
I have met lots of wonderful bed rest moms through the forum at www.KeepEmCookin.com and on Twitter (http://twitter.com/KeepEmCookin). The days on bed rest are very long, but so worth it! Are you getting the 17P shots? And, if it isn't TMI, do you know what the length of your cervix is?

Hi BedrestQueen,

Yes, I am taking the 17 P shots... that has been a fun adventure having my husband administer those too! My cervix at 9 weeks was 2.4cm thus the cerclage. The U/S at 17 weeks showed it was 3.2cm transabdominal (not as accurate as transvaginal) and the last U/S showed (22 weeks) it is 2.7cm transvaginal. Because of the difference b/w transabdominal and transvaginal, there actually was no change in length according to my doctor. My peri didn't want to see me back until 28 weeks, so he felt comfortable with the way it looked. When my regular OB got the report of the slight funneling, she put me on bedrest. She's seeing me now every 2 weeks. Ok... sorry so long, maybe I gave TMI! :) Thanks for the websites, I'll check them out!

I'm almost 23 weeks pregnant. I will be on Saturday. I've been on bedrest since 16 weeks this time. I have pre-term labor and a partial placenta previa. (This is my 3rd pre-term labor experience - my first two sons were born at 34 and 35 weeks after months of PTL). I've been on P17 since 16 weeks. Indocin at 20 weeks. Procardia 10mg at 16 weeks - Currently I'm on a Terbuatline Pump and 20mg of Procardia every 6 hours, as well as P17.

As of my last visit my cervical length is 1.47 and I'm 1-2cm dialted.

I'm on strict bedrest... and I still contract some, but they give me extra boluses through my pump. I have Alere home monitoring and have had it since last week Wednesday.

I've had one 5 day hospital stay from the 8th of Sept - the 13th...

I'm trying desperately to get to 24 weeks, and then hopefully 28 weeks... and we'll see from there! I don't think I will be so fortunate to get to the mid-30 weeks like I did with my first two boys... this time my progression is much quicker, but its also been 14 years since my last son was born...

I'd love to stay connected! I'm on What to Expect and there's not much suppor there. Sidelines is pretty good... and Keepemcookin doesn't get much activity... so this site seems great!

Take care! And hang on Mamma's! We can do this...

Hi DarrellnDawnsBaby!

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear you're having a rough time! Sounds like you are at home... will they move you to hospital bedrest eventually? I will definitely pray that you make it to your goal of 28 (and beyond!) weeks! You can definitely do it, just stay flat! Sounds like your sons are older and maybe able to help? :) I wish you the very best, and we definitely can do this... just one day at a time. :) Take care and you can e-mail me if you get bored. anniem222@hotmail.com

Best wishes,
Ann

My name is Dawn by the way... yes, I'm at home now. I'm not sure if they'll have me go back into the hospital.. anything is entirely possible. That 24 week point is the magic point they want you to get to!

Oh, I don't have a cerclage... they wouldn't give me one, so you're lucky! It's extra protection! :) I'd definitely love to keep in touch! You are at that magic point... now just keep proving them wrong!

Did you have a cerclage with your 1st that was born at 30 weeks?

Hi Dawn,

Why wouldn't they do the cerclage? Is it too late? I had mine early as a preventative, since they discovered my cervix was short. I definitely feel lucky for that! Even without a cerclage I've heard of many women going far (or even full term) on just bedrest.

No, I didn't have one with my first son. I had a lot of cramping, Braxton Hicks and spotting off and on the whole time. I also had a CVS at 13 weeks (would never do that again) so who knows what happened. I lost my plug I think at 27 weeks and was put on bedrest (baby dropped into my pelvis) at 28 weeks. Water broke at 29 weeks. Crazy! So there are many factors that could have caused the turn of events.

I wish you the best, you're almost there!

Ann

They wouldn't give me a cerclage because I'm having active preterm labor contractions and they said it would do more damage than good... :(

I lost my plug at 20 weeks in the hospital... and I'm almost 23 weeks... Saturday!

So, how did your son do??? Did they give him steriods?

Oh... ok. I'm so sorry you've had such a hard time. I sure hope things calm down for you and you cruise through 24 weeks... then 28... and further!

My son did well, and he did get the steroid shots 2 days before he was born. He did come home on O2 and a couple reflux meds. He was on the vent in the NICU for a few days and then CPAP, and then the cannula for a couple of weeks. About 3 weeks after he was born they took him off O2 and he did fine, but about a month later he regressed and needed it again. A couple of nurses in the NICU actually thought he was 28 or 29 weeks instead of 30 because of his size. He was 2lb 13 oz, so I think it's possible. He came home on his due date, so it was 68 days total. It was a tough first few months home, with pumping and trying to get him to breastfeed, which he eventually took to full time. He is very healthy now and you would never know he was a preemie except that he is small. I am definitely hoping to get past 30 weeks this time! The good thing is this baby is measuring a whole week ahead, very comforting! Jaxson my son always measured behind... so we'll see. We'll have to name this one Maximus! :)

Hang in there, you're doing great!

I love the name Maximus... this baby is measuring ahead by about a week too... so size is definitely on his side! Wow, he had a long stay despite being so far along!

My son was born at 34 weeks and he was 4#14oz and he was in the NICU for 5 days then came home on a heart/respirator monitor... it would be so nice if I could get that far, but it seems to be forever away! Once I can resume some sort of normalcy in my life it will be ok.... :) A wheelchair ride to the store would be fabulous! ;)

Well, I wish you lots of luck and we'll definitely have to keep in touch!

Wow! VEry close to home:( I really hope you get to your goal 28WKS iLL BE PRAYING FOR YOU!
I had a cerclae put in with my first son whos born at 33 weeks and is now 10 months. Im currently on my 2nd little guy 22 and a half weeks and counting:)
I had a cerclage put in at 13weeks and seems to be holding great THANKS BE TO GOD..IM prayin i have no bedrest... I was on bed rest with the first one from 21 weeks till 33 weeks 8 of them were spent in the hospital!
Wishing you all the luck!

Hi,

I am currently 25.4 weeks pregnant with twins. Today is my 4 week anniversary of bedrest. I have been in the hospital ever since I called the doctor and said something did not feel right. I have 2 other children, ages 2 and 4, and did not experience these problems with them. Granted I'm 35 now but......

When I got to the doctor's office sonogram showed I had quite a bit of funneling and my cervix had shortened to 10. I had an emergency cerclage placed immediately. After a few days I started with contractions and now I am on Procardia 10mg every 4 hours.

I miss my family terribly but we are close enough that they come to visit almost everyday. My first goal was 24 weeks, which I made, and believe me I got the steroids at about 12:01 am that day. My next goal is 28 weeks. God willing, I'll make it there.

My doctor warned me that bedrest was a roller coaster ride of emotions and he was right. There are days when I feel fine and then just an hour or so later I will be in panic mode. I am so grateful for sites like this so we can talk to each other and bounce ideas around. It helps so much to be able to commiserate with someone in the same boat.

Please feel free to email me if I can help you at all or if you just want someone to talk to, Lord knows I have the time!

Fingers & ankles crossed!

Lee

Hey Lee!!! We're running into each other all over the place!!! You are doing fantastic Mamma! I give KUDOS to you for being in the hospital, but I believe it's the best place for you with your babies...

I am 1 day away from 23 weeks!! Yay! :) 1 week away from that "V" word... ;)

Hi Lee,

You're doing great! it's amazing how we just "know" something isn't right. The week I called my Dr, she checked me manually and I guess I felt different so she sent me for the U/S the next day. That's when they discovered the funneling. It goes to show... you have to trust "mommy instinct"!

Sounds like you are doing well, I will pray for 28+ weeks for you too! You can do it! That's great your family can visit often, I'm sure that helps so much. I'm at home right now which is nice, hopefully it can stay that way for a while. It's hard though, because there's much more temptation to do stuff. For me one of the hardest parts of bedrest is letting go and having people do stuff for me.

Anyway, enough rambling... You're doing great and Dawn, congrats on almost 23! You can do it!

Take care Ladies!
Ann

Wow. A lot of us in similar circumstances right now. My son was born at 29 weeks and had a 60 day NICU stay. He's 2 1/2 now. I'm currently 23 weeks along and I've been on house arrest since 16 weeks and bedrest (with once a week wheelchair for church priviliges) since 21 weeks. My husband and I opted not to have the cerclage done (so far, I have no funneling/dilation like I did with my son), but at this point my cervix is too soft to have one placed safely anyway. I've had PTL contractions since 16 weeks and been on Procardia for the duration (except for a stint on Indocin for a few days around week 20). As long as I behave myself, I don't see terbutalin/mag this time around. I was on hospital rest with my son for a month and alternating terb and mag IVs, so this is like a walk in the park in comparison. We're hoping to make it to 36 weeks with this one, but anything over 30 would be amazing. Bedrest (prayerfully, not hospital rest) until then, except for weekly U/S and consult. I've had to take the semester off work (I'm a part-time English professor), so money is tight and my sanity is questionable, but I know the bedrest is what's kept my cervix as long as it is.

By the way, this one is a girl. Lia Brynne.

~Maggie

Hi Maggie!

Congrats on your baby girl, how exciting! She has a very pretty name too! I hope to make it to 36 weeks as well, but I'd be happy with 30+ too. I understand keeping your sanity... I have luckily been given the ok to keep tutoring the boy I've been tutoring since last year. He has to come here though. That's definitely helped keep me sane.

I wish you the best! You can do it! I will pray that you make it to 36 weeks +! Like you said, just "behave" and stay flat... I have to remind myself to do the same! It's hard not to want to get up and help myself to whatever... I forget to ask for help.

Take care!
Ann

to all of you battling IC and trying to stay pregnant - there is hope - my sister made is with no cerclage and practicaly no cervical length (dynamic cervix and IC) from 24 weeks to 38 weeks. She was religious about bedrest. It saved her, and I hope it does you too! There's another mommy on here, MissyMinx, that has made it from 24 to 32 or 33 so far- yeah!! Good luck, keeping you all in my thoughts. (I had preterm and Pre-E, no IC)

Thank you mygirlsmom for the inspiration! Good stories like that help keep me going...
