Anyone starting milk at 12 month actual

0 Recommendations

Our pediatrician gave the go ahead to start whole milk at one year actual (my twins are 9 1/2 month corrected). I told him I would like to continue formula two more months. Has anyone else started at the actual age? Any other peds give the go ahead? Just wondering.

Yes, we started at 12 months actual, 9 1/2 adjusted. Our pediatrician felt that b/c they were eating 100% table food and in the 75th percentile weight for their actual age, that formula was no longer necessary. They did just fine on whole milk, and drink about 16 ounces a day.

Our ped told us to go ahead at one year actual. I think we waited another two weeks and then slowly switched him over another week. He was on soy. We just slowly mixed milk in until he was on a whole bottle of whole milk. We didn't have any problems.

Our doctor told us to wait until 12 months adjusted because Reagan has a milk protein sensitivity. She will be turning 12 months adjusted on the 30th of this month. we were told to first try yogurt and see how she does with that. We were supposed to have already tried it, but I have been afraid of it being to early, so I think we are going to try it for the first time this weekend.
The doctor said that because of her sensitivity to milk that we should hold off on all allergenic food(wheat, eggs, etc) until she is 12 months adjusted.

I recently found a new pediatrician because my old one was focusing more on her actual age rather than adjusted and this did not make sense to me. If you don't feel comfortable switching to whole milk before 12 months adjusted than stick with formula. After all, you don't hear peds recommending full term babies switch to whole mild before 1 year regardless of there condition. There are many reasons they need the formula for a year so I understand why you are hesitant. Good luck with your decision.

We were given the go ahead, but opted to wait an extra 3 months until the girls were solidly eating all table foods. Then we slowly switched them over.

Our ped told us as long as he/she is eating 3 meals a day (at least 4-5 oz each) and 2 snacks, it was okay to make the switch. You don't want to make the switch if the child is not eating enough solid food, because they will not get enough nutrients.

Our ped told us DS could start on whole milk when he was 12 months actual (8.5 months adjusted). He transitioned really well and pretty quickly. He liked milk a lot more than he liked the formula - LOL

We started our son on goat's milk at 8 months adjusted, but that was only because he was having trouble with his formula. It was making him constipated and aggravating his reflux (and it was an elemental formula!). He did well on goat's milk, but we made sure to start him on meats earlier b/c goat's milk is lower in B12 than formula or breast milk.

He did get a little breast milk too. I pumped until he was 22 months actual. But he outpaced my supply at 5 months adjusted, hence the need for formula.

I would have stuck with formula until 12 adjusted if it hadn't been for his extenuating circumstances. Formula does have the added DHA (which you can get as a supplement for when babies stop drinking formula).
