So we took the fab four for their first round of synagis and I was surprised to find they got one shot in each leg.....? Is that the way it is all the time? I always just assumed it was one shot....

Ours always got only 1 shot. Odd. Did they maybe get a vaccination, or a flu shot - shouldn't without your knowledge, but that's the only thing I can think of. I know it is safe to get vaccination(s) the same time as synagis. Ours had them coincide once and their pedi said it was fine.
We received 2 shots several times. I believe it is based on the weight of the baby. They need to split the shot up into 2 if the baby is too small. When he was in his 2nd year of shots, he only received one each time.
Mine son is starting his second season of shots and has always got one in each leg, totally 2 shots every visit. Maybe as he gets older...it will decrease to only one.
Towards the end of last season DS started to get 2, I believe once it is over a certain amount they split the dose.
Violet is 10 lbs and had 1 shot in her leg! I wonder if she should have been given 2...I will be very upset if they messed up. The woman did not even know what it was and I heard them giving her instructions outside the room on how to pull up the shot according to weight. HMMM>>>
ooo ok. that makes sense. mine are all between 16-19lbs. I had just never heard of that before and didnt think to ask.
Our daughter got 2 shots the last month she recieved it. It is based on weight.
"Synagis should be administered in a dose of 15 mg/kg intramuscularly using aseptic technique, preferably in the anterolateral aspect of the thigh. Gluteal muscle should not be use because of risk of damage to the sciatic nerve. The dose per month = pt weight (kg) X 15mg/kg divided by 100 mg/ml. Injections volumes greater than one ml should be given in a divided dose." to paraphrase the synagis pamphlet.
Is depends on there weight and how much they get at one time then they have to do two shots.
My daughters shots always depended on the weight. when she was 1yr and under she was getting 1 shot and just this past winter she was getting 2. Just give them kisses and say yeah there getting bigger so now they need 2 shots....
DS started off with one shot but by the end of the season it was 2 because of the weight he had gained.
The maximum amount of volume that can be injected into their muscle is 1 ml. There is 100mg in a 1ml dose so if their weight constitutes a dose of more than 100mg then they split up the dose between the 2 syringes.
as your child gets bigger-they have to increase the dose--and as Sunshine78 said, they have to use 2 legs.....I hated it. Its WAY better if they have 2 nurses to do it at the same time--rather than one at a time.
Depends on weight. 2 shots really still may be one dosage. My son gets 2 - one full syringe & one w/ just a little bit in it...
It all depends on the size of your baby. Typically for each vial of Synagis that has to be mixed they will do one shot. So by the end my boys each got three shots each. However, one of the nurses at the clinic was well aware that the boys' thighs were big enough that they could put those three into one or two shots. Even this nurse still did two shots. I love the idea of two nurses doing the two shots at once! I would have needed four nurses to do two shots for each of my boys at once--and it would have been wonderful!
