Ok we have been given a final diagnosis.. What does that mean? Not a lot cuz knowing what happened doesn't change the situation he is in... accept the legal ones about to begin.

ischemic event - blood was cut off to his spinal cord during the time he was in PE doing standing long jumps. As Matthew told the Dr what happened his jaw dropped. Matthew was in PE class was jumping as instructed. Told the teacher his legs felt weird. She ordered him to keep jumping. He laid down after jumping and was yelled at to get up and jump or go run. He got up not knowing himself he was headed for disaster trusting his teacher knew best. He jumped and his jumps just didn't go far. So he took off his shoes and jumped and then went to lay down in the grass. The teacher asked him what he was doing and he told her.. I can't take any more my legs feel weird... She ordered him to go run the track. Now you might wonder why he listened to her and a background might help you understand. My son had a brain injury at birth. He is a gentle giant..he never questions authority he does what he is told no matter what. He got up and tried to run. He had to lock his knees to keep from falling. He then had to grasp them to try to get back to the locker room. Kids didn't believe him when he asked for help they laughed .. once in the locker room he collapsed and someone finally helped him to his locker. He got dressed on the floor and again this boy helped him up on the bench where he immediately fell over and realized he couldn't feel his legs. They finally got him help. They however wouldn't take my son to the ER until I reached the school.. I don't understand this. There is such thing as a Golden Hour and they were wasting time. The hospital mistreated him took him off the back board told him his paralysis was in his head. More happened here that falls in the lines of medical malpractice that would just freak anyone out... but would take lots of space to write. Finally at shift change many many hours later a Dr with some common sense came in put him on a back board again and had him flown to Orlando to get proper treatment. ... So here we are.. Anger has set in and rational thinking sometimes fly's out the window. Bills are piling up. Hit our catastrophic cap.. Not sure that is a good thing but some things we don't have to pay for until the next fiscal year starts again.

As the Dr listened to this history like I said his jaw dropped. He couldn't believe a Teacher would do this or that another Dr would be so careless with a life. To hear him say there are many factors that played a part in his paralysis now we have to fight to get back as much as we can.

Everyone who listens to us always' asks .. I hope your going to sue! Personally I want to go take the teacher out and super glue her legs to her ear's and make her try to run the track. I am looking into lawyers I have not called any since the day of the accident but now need to get the ball rolling..

I want to do the right thing. I don't want him to have to struggle any more in life. His birth injury made much of his life a fight but he over came it. He is an honor student.. .He excels academically now. He had so much taken from him with this accident like everyone who has a SCI...

I just want to make sure he doesn't have to worry about much later in life after this is over and done with. We don't know what recovery will be, accept it will be great any and all of it.

I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing.
