I see that there is a place for journals, so I will get to writing about my experience, but give me some time to get it together. Thanks

I am a paraplegic, T-12, since December 2001. On an internet search re: SCI, I learned about the International Spinal Cord Regeneration Center located in Tijuana, Mexico. My first gut reaction was NO WAY, but I did some investigating, and finally decided to to down there and check it out. I did participate in some treatment involving stem cells there, and would be happy to talk about it further, but it is quite an extensive story. I have had some return, and am happy with the results, but it is very expensive. Insurance covers nothing because it's out of the country. I believe in what Dr. Fernando Ramirez is doing and would and will go back in a heartbeat for more treatment when I can afford it, but I am a single mom on a disability income so it just isn't in the cards right now. I will try to put together something written and find a place to post it, or can e-mail it privately to anyone who would like to hear more.

Stem cells are a possible future part (but not all) of a cure for spinal cord injury, but in the USA there are many restrictions from the government on the research in this area. There is more research going on in countries such as China than in the USA, but it is still very early in these research studies and no one is being cured. Some who have undergone these treatments have shown some small gains, others have not been helped in spite of expensive treatments, and others have actually been made worse. It is important though to still push for ongoing research in this area. You can find out a lot of what is currently happening in SCI research at these websites:

www.icord.org
This includes an excellent document on what you should know before participating in any type of spinal cord related research study. The direct link to this is:
