Want to train on a Lokomat in So. Cal.

0 Recommendations

Hi - Does anyone know of a facility in Southern Californa - preferably Los Angeles area - where one can go and get some Lokomat training? C5/C6 incomplete 2 1/2 years out from injury, just beginning to walk, assisted, and rather shaky at it. Thanks.

I recently joined NextStep in Lawndale, near Hermosa Beach off the 405 and Artesia. They do Gaited Walk and have FES system. Wonderful people trained in SCI rehabilitation. Contact Christel Mitrovitch at (310)546-5666. Went for second session they really work you. I am a C4 incomplete Central Cord Syndrome 1 year post injury walking with forearm crutches very stiffly.
How was your discharge care? We are researching that. Where did you go for rehab? After rehab what did you do?

NextStep is not Lokomat but uses same principle with therapist at each leg and one matching speed and weight on harness. Many studies show Gaited Walk as beneficial.

Hi Trace,
Thanks for that info. He went to Craig Hosp. for 3 months, after spending 30 days in ICU. Weaned off vent at Craig. We had to start from scratch after he got home from Craig. Had to beg to get into Northridge Hosp outpatient rehab - his insurance fortunately pays for his P/T and O/T but lets just say Northridge is living in the dark ages. But it is relatively close to home. They took away his wonderful P/T recently and he is not doing well at all with new P/T they assigned him. He also does P/T at home and has "graduated" from standing frame and tries to get an assisted walk in several times a week. Lawndale is quite a haul for us - probably more than an hours drive each way. He has improved a lot in past 4 or 5 months or so. But shoulder, arm, hand strength and mobility lagging behind his legs. Getting a little bladder control back and longs for the day when he can get some bowel control back. How about you?
