So does anyone know of a place, something like a resort, for the disabled? It would be great to take a vacation where people were more like me...lol. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

There is a place in Missouri called Wonderland Camp in the Ozarks. It's for disabled people of all ages. Here's their website www.wonderlandcamp.org, see if it's what you're looking for.
I have also been wondering if the airlines cooperate with SCI persons who are unable to transfer out of their own power chair for a plane trip? My son has been wanting to travel 3,000 miles to meet his cousins. I would have no way to transfer him out of his chair for a flight.
With regard to the airlines, I don't know if things have changed recently, but when we brought our son home to Boston from Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Delta Airlines was unbelievably helpful in all aspects of the air travel. They did do the transfer from wheelchair to the little transfer chair they use on the plane to the seat. We had my son's power chair shipped home separately and were traveling with him in a manual.
I went to another site www.xable.com and had met a fabulous guy called Scott Rains, who actually does TONS concerning vacations, tours etc for disabled people as well as does reviews of many companies that provide travel services through his site. You can find him here http://tournet.ning.com/profile/ScottRains
He's a great guy and I am sure you can get alot of great help
For anyone who may be of Christian faith and are looking for vacationing, there is a camp organization called Special Touch. They have 13 different areas where they hold summer camps. They start on the next to the last week in May & end in September. Their website is http://www.specialtouch.org
When I was looking at the page for Wonderland Camp my 16 year old son saw the webpage & asked what was going on. I explained to him what it was, we looked around the sight & he wants to be a camp counselor next summer. Thanks so much for posting that webpage.
This is in answer to Mikeysmom1 about the airlines. I have found it really depends on the crew you get. Some airlines have different policies, but in general they try to help when they can. I don't know that they would be able to transfer your son for you, but they do have aisle chairs they use to get him to his seat. You would have to figure out a way to transfer him & I am sure that it can be done. How about a CNA that would like to take a trip with you to help with your son? Talk to people everywhere, someone will come up with an idea that will work. Please let us know if your son gets to go on his trip. That would be great news!!!
