Anything that will help is worth looking into.
Given the recent progress in some of the LLLT (Low Level Laser Therapy), where they got nerves to reconnect on rats just using LLLT (no surgery), there may be some less invasive methods coming. See my post under the LLLT section for the link.
And the Russian devices - the Scenars and Cosmodics, have also apparently made some progress (though not well known yet in the west). I heard comments from a therapist (I think from Colorado) who was getting some muscle response (where there had been none before - on what sounds like it was a C6 complete paralysis) combining laser and Scenar, and if there is more to begin with, the likelihood of regaining movement goes up. I haven't been able to get an update from him yet, but suspect that the slow progress has continued to some degree.
Laser increases blood flow, increases lymph drainage (reducing swelling), and adds to cell energy, increasing the chances of waking up sleeping cells. Scenar stimulates the body using electrical impulses that are copies of nerve impulses, stimulating C nerve fibers (the deepest and hardest to reach), causing them to release endorphins (the body's natural pain killers, and also the body's biochemical trigger for triggering the body to try to repair the area. The more advanced version of the Scenars, called Cosmodics, have 46 microresonances carried on the signal, and for a number of injuries, have apparently been successful in triggering some regeneration.
Sorry - I meant to say Ness H200 - by Bioness. If you go to bioness.com you can read about it. We are using it at outpatient rehab. It is available at many rehabs. "We" are C5/6 incomplete less than 3 years out from injury. Upper extremities not as recovered as lower. Hands have been a big problem, as well as range of motion in arms. The Ness H200 is a biofeedback device with elec stim that helps your hands to be re-taught to work right. We have just begun using it and it has been great so far. Lots of progress. For two years or so hands have been in pain, clawed and unable to do anything. Now he is able to pinch with thumb and forefinger, turn pages without a device and pain is minimal and hands are not clawed anymore.
what is this,
can you give me more info on this.
web sites or any help, thank you.
Before you try surgery check out the Hess H-200 by Bioness. It has been great for us.
I did not get the surgery but at rehab Craig Hospital in Denver i know it was introduced to me, seemed like they were on top of it.
Good luck with the insurance,
Randy
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, IM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET MY INSURANCE TO OK THE SURGERY.
Yes. Tendon transfer surgery. My daughter's roommate at Shepherd's had her's done last year and she is thrilled with the ability to pinch. She went to PA at the Shriner's to have it done. She said it was a bit painful, a long time healing but in the end it is well worth it.
