I am a mother of an 8 YEAR OLD girl who when she was 6 years old she was in an automobile accident with my husband (her father). This left my daughter with a T-3 TO T-4 injury to her spine. While searching the internet I came across a hospital in Baltimore, MD we live in Louisiana. The name of the hospital is Kennedy Krieger Institute. My daughter has an appointment to go out there in December.

My concern now is funding. What can I do funding to pay for this trip? Since the accident, I am now an at home mom and my husband is the only one working plus we have a two year old son. Is there something I can do to finance this trip? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? THIS IS NEW TO ME.

Hello!

First of all, I want to tell you that we take our 3 and 5 year old daughters to Kennedy Krieger Institute, and we believe that it is the BEST place for us to be. Our 3 year old had a stroke to her spinal cord, which effected T3-T7. We were initially told that she would have no recovery below the level of her injury, but after going to KKI, we have seen a great deal of recovery. It is amazing!!! I could not give them a higher recommendation.

While we are in Baltimore, we stay at the Ronald McDonald House, and they have a shuttle to and from KKI. It costs $15 per night to stay at the house, but if you can't afford to pay that, you just need to speak to them, and they have the ability to lower the price. Groups come in almost every night to serve dinner for the families who stay here.

I too am a stay at home mom, and we live on one income. If you want to e-mail me, please feel free to do so. I would be happy to discuss other ideas. I have many things to share about KKI, the Ronald McDonald House, etc.

I hope to hear from you soon. You are going to be so happy to go to Kennedy Krieger!

Sincerely,
Melissa Buckles

Thanks alot Melissa! Could you tell me more about getting into the Ronald Mc Donald House? i tried to contact someone but I never got an answer. I am starting to get nervous about the trip come December. I am thinking maybe we won't get the finances needed. But any information you can give I will surely appreciate it. Thanks again, Shelita Weber

Hi Shelita Weber I'm Tim I live in NH. and at the state house there is a disable office. I would think that most all state have this office. So call the state house and ask it wont hert, they will know who you can call. Best of luck God be with you and the family.
A friend Tim
