Hi everyone,I am jaykay40's wife. We just found out that he is going to have to have surgery due to scar tissue build up that is squeezing his spinal chord it's in the c-5 c-6 region. We have already been through a serious surgery regarding a syrinx two years ago, and this was very stressful. This time the surgeon has told us that is much more serious this time. He had even stated that we want to get his living will updated, so you can only imagine what we are presently going through. If he doesn't have the surgery he is going to lose the feeling in his arms farely quickly as it has progressed rapidly in the past few months. We were told that if he does have the surgery he may be able to keep what sensation he has in his hands or, either come out fully paralyzed, or he could come out being paralyzed and on a ventilator. So as you can see there is a no win situation here.
I have even thought about looking for other surgeons outside of our state, that truly specialize in spinal chord injuries alone. My husband wants to stick with the surgeon we have now as he is the one who initially repaired his back after his accident and did the surgery from two years ago.
Is there anyone out there that has gone through surgery of this magnitude, or someone that is with some one who has had this kind of surgery. If so could someone help us and let us know what happened if things went well. His surgery is scheduled for february 20, and to be truly honsest I am scared as hell. Any response or help would be truly appreciated.
