Stadium Access

Hi,
Do you have any anecdotal stories (good, bad, ugly, surprisingly impressive?) about stadium access? The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation would like to collect stories about your experience at different stadium venues, including professional teams and college arenas, sports or concerts.

I have been to Celtic games at the Garden, Sox games at Fenway, local minor league games in hockey and baseball, as well as high scholl games and the access as well as seating and view lines have been nothing short of fantastic. The people have gone out of thier way to make sure everything is okay and treated me like a vip. I'm nothing short of astonished. I have called and written to each place to let them know how completely satisfied I was. I hope, for everyones sake, that this is not the exception

Well, I've gone to 3 concerts this summer 2 at the San Diego County Fair which was very organized and had good seating and good attention. The other one was at an open air theater in Chula Vista and the seating was very nice t the staff wasn't well informed and they had my mom and I going from one place to another
untill they told us we needed to go to guest services to get accomadated which wasn't very practical but in the end it was all good we had great seating.

I go to a lot of events and I find the nightmare experiences to be a lot less frequent. Newer venues are typically great. Sight lines and seating areas are handled differently though. I prefer the wheelchair seating be broken up instead of being in one or two designated spots.

Prudential Center in Newark Devils/concerts - 4 stars, good parking, great access.

MSG - Rangers/Knicks etc. 0-1 star. So bad I stopped going. Seating, restrooms, staff just awful. Thanks to the Dolan family for ruining NY sports. Sadly, The Rangers have always been a great organization and good friends to SCI research.

Old Yankee stadium - I won't miss it.Before my injury I went to hundreds of games - 20-30 a year. After, 2. I was treated awful, the stadium was awful and haven't been been back in 15 years. I have high hopes for the new one.

Radio City Music Hall - 5 stars. Just great. Warm, well-trained staff. Seating in many locations.

GIANT Stadium - Giants/Jets/concerts For an older place it's always been ok. Seating is covered at the top of the lower section. Tickets are free upon request from the Mara Family Trust I believe. The new stadium should be amazing.

Staples Center LA - 5 stars. Perfection. Great access, great sight lines, clean, good staff.

Camden Yards Baltimore Orioles - It's been awhile, but 5 stars. Seating all over the park. Great sight lines. Boog's BBQ. Good time.

Walnut Creek Amphitheatre Raleigh NC:

Good seating if you dont have to fight off the guest/caretaker of the wheelchair person. They usually take all the front seating and stand throughout the performance.

Dean Smith Center Chapel Hill NC:

Handicapped seating is a million miles from the floor, and if your seeing a concert like ZZ top that uses laser shows you cannot see the roof because your covered by seating above you.

Charlotte Motor Speedway:

Many different choices for handicapped seating all are great. Never an obstructed view, always great seats.

A bad seat at the old Yankee Stadium is still classic. Went there when I was in college on a road trip and saw The Mick het a homer..... worth the trip.
Just an observation from Red Sox Nation.

Ive been to Cincy Reds, Great American ballpark, very good. Upper deck (super cheap seats, not accessible, but from there ondown are accessible.

Been to Nippert Stadium (Univ Of Cincinnati) great as well, all under cover too so you don't get wet.

Paul Brown Staduim (Bengals), Good as well.

Xavier University (basketball), has areas, but they don't seat all that many, and oftn you have to split up with the family.

I find parking at all these venues a much bigger problem. With a high top accessible van I drive, few garages that are close to the stadiums can accomodate and you have to fight for spots that are van accessible with other HCP vehicles.

Bigger issues with scout camps, camping areas, cabins, etc....I guess they don't expect W/C traffic.
