squeaky wheelchair

0 Recommendations

My wheelchair is 10 years old. We have replaced about everything on it, trying to avoid having to buy a new chair. Now it squeals everywhere I go no matter if I drive fast or slow. My dad checked the wheels for dog hair, it's still squeaking. Does anyone have any advice? Dad is gonna try grese. This is getting irratating!

Take it to your local bike store. They may need to tighten the spokes. If it isn't that, they can probably tell you what it is.

Good luck!

It is a power chair sorry I did not mention that.

Grease it up! It has to be something rubbing. You can also try contacting the manufacturer and see what they say.

Good luck!

My dad talked about doing just that, meaning we will contact advacare. He greesed it up with no avail. It's making us nuts. (we already are a little crazy.)

You may just need to get a new chair. Do you have medicaid or medicare?

I don't know how many people know this, if things are still the same when my husband was alive, medicare will pay for you to get a new chair every five years. They don't advertise that fact but it is a fact. If your chair is falling apart, contact medicare & start the process to get a new chair. Usually, all you need is your doctor to sign a paper saying you need a new one. Good luck.

Thank you for telling me this. I have Medicade.

Thank you for filling me in paticake and rj. The place that sold me the chair was surprised that I had it so long. I think I need to work on getting a new chair. By the way my dads an rj.

I just got a new chair after four years because of a drastic change in my diagnosis. Through the process I learned that Medicare wants 7 years before granting a new chair. If you have had yours for 10 years it shouldn't be a problem. If you have Medacaid I assume you have a caseworker. Get that person involved. That's what they are there for.

Good Luck. Even with the change in diagnosis, doctor approval letters, physical therapist recommendation letters plus various state aid workers helping me it still took over a year and a half to get the new chair!

Bob

thannk you for the info. i think we are going to start the process to get a new chair.

Dad says it is just the barings and we will order some Monday.
He added to stop embarising him.

Yep, definitely sounds like busted bushes/ball-bearings to me. I was about to suggest that, even if it is a power chair, it would be a good idea to let the bike store people take a look at it. But then I saw your last response. Sounds like you’re sorted. 

Good day,

Tony.

Yeah my dad replaced the bearings thus repairing the problem.
Thank you all for your advice.
