Showering (and other bathroom biz) while traveling

0 Recommendations

We've recently introduced a couple of new portable shower chairs designed specifically to help disabled individuals travel more easily and comfortably. Please take a look at them at www.GoesAnywhere.com.

I invented this chair because a piping hot shower every day, no matter where I happen to travel, is a luxury I would not want to live without. When I don't shower in the morning, leg and abdominal spasms make me miserable all day long. It's also nice to be able to take a dump in the bathroom where you're supposed to and not elsewhere! :)

About 6 or 7 years ago I purchased a "portable shower chair" constructed of painted rectangular steel tubing, plastic and vinyl for $600 and it wasn't worth the poop meant to go through it. It was a piece of crap! It rusted, it weighed a ton and was unbearable to sit in; plus it was not even close to being safe. I took it to a welding shop to, basically, re-engineer it to the point where it was safe and 'almost' comfortable. To make a long story short, I decided that if it was gonna be done right, I'd have to do it myself. So I did. This chair is safe, comfortable, portable, lightweight, a piece-of-cake to assemble without any tools, can get me into a tub if there's not a roll-in shower available and it will last forever.

I'd be happy to send you a free DVD if you'd like to see how it works. Just log on to the website and click on the free DVD link.

The chair - slide looks great. I would like to be able to travel and
not worry about the ablutions part of the problems involved with that, but
I need more trunk support. I am paralyzed from the chest down. Do you think
you can design it with arm rests?

Greg.

Disregard, just got a better look and saw the arm rests!
How much weight will the chairs hold?

Greg.

I couldn't find the link for the DVD and really want to see it. I want to visit family and need a shower chair. Thanks.

Over the past couple of month I've received e-mails from a number of people who have expressed interests in purchasing a shower chair-only, i.e.: without the tub section and bridge, and a self-propellable chair with big wheels.

In response, we've added the roll-in only version and, at some time in the middle of January, we will be introducing self-propel models for both systems. In the self-propel versions, the 5" casters on the front of the chair have been replaced with 20" tubeless tires and wheel locks which can still be easily stored in the carrying case for convenient transport. As with the non-self-propel models, there are no tools required to assemble and the entire chair can be easily put together in just a few minutes.

We have also completed the design and testing of a fully-adjustable headrest for those that might need one and torso, waist and calf positioning / safety straps will be available as well after the New Year.

Because they are constructed of aircraft-grade aluminum, the Go-Anywhere Chairs are virtually maintenance-free and even the foam cushions are lasting longer than I ever imagined they would. I use my chair as an every-day use chair, not just for travel, and have done so for going on two years, without any problems whatsoever.

For any orders placed during the month of December we are extending discounts and free shipping. If you haven't been by recently, please stop by our web site at www.GoesAnywhere.com and take a look.

I just viewed this product (had no problem with the website) and thought it is awesome; however, the price is being touted as affordable and "less than half that of other chairs" in the testimonials of the website. Reading how the design came from a $600 chair that was completely re-engineered I was expecting a price in that range, not $1695. It looks like a great product but it is just as expensive as other shower chairs.

Believe it or not, we are priced at nearly half of what our only competition (www.nuprodx.com) is selling their product for. I know it doesn't look like it, but there is just under 60 lineal feet of lightweight, aircraft-grade aluminum in each chair. Try to imagine a distance of 60' from where you sit. It's a long way if you think of a piece of aluminum pipe! There are also more than 200 individual parts which need to be cut, drilled, welded and/or assembled before testing and shipping our chairs.

I know it's a lot of money, but, believe me, we've done everything possible to make this product as affordable as possible, including keeping our margin down to next to nothing, because I know a lot of people need a chair like this, just as I did, and most insurance companies won't pay for shower chairs because of the dumbass Medicare guidelines.

Just an update. Since last year, we've added a self-propellable version of the Go-Anywhere Chair and new accessories including an adjustable headrest, double-thick cushions, positioning belts, etc. We've also improved our carrying case which has integral wheels and retractable handle and is made for us by a company that manufactures the travel bags for the Phoenix Suns, AZ Diamondbacks and Cardinals, just to name the teams in one state.

We are currently finishing up the prototype for a removable tray with a mesh net which holds disposable commode bags for situations where a toilet may not be accessible or available.

We've added a bunch of pics on the website so check them out at www.GoesAnywhere.com if this sounds like something that might help you get out and about.

rick

I am curious, why are the big wheels in front?
