Movement after spasms??

0 Recommendations

Hi there,

My boyfriend became an incomplete c6/7 on August 30, 2008. He has been having lots of spasms in his legs since the accident, but about a week ago, something interesting happened. He was having spasm after spasm in his left leg. He said to me "it feels like I could move my leg if I tried". So, obviously I told him to try. And he was able to move it!! A lot! It definately was controlled, and not a spasm. He asked his doctor about it, and the doctor said that it was neither relevant or irrelevant, but to continue to keep trying to move it. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this?

Spinal shock

Spasm are something that come with an SCI. The movement part is separate. The spinal shock is beginning to lessen and the true residual of his SCI will not be known for quite a while still. He needs to continue to work hard to move more. In some, when movement begins sometimes the spasms stop... I encourage you to read all you can about SCI and the process of rehabilitation. MOVEMENT IS FANTASTIC! I wish your boyfriend the best.

In my opinion, personally, it's highly relevant! Keep working at it. I think I'll encourage my son with a complete severage to try to work with his spasm's too. I am not confident my son would be able to move his legs, but it would be great to make these painful, annoying spasm's of some benefit!

ya, it's a good sign of recovery if you keep on this.
my doctor also did tell me the same.
so, good luck to your boyfriend, just don't give up!
