Received assistance from the state, dept of vocational rehabilitation, to get a lift installed 8 years ago (had to buy a new van as the one I had had too many miles and they wouldn't pay if I used that one). So a big expense at a time when it took 20K to make the house /bathroom etc accessible.

Looking to see if there is assistance the second time around anywhere....will be needing to replace the van and lift in a year-18 months. I know the van will be on me, but how about the lift? Anyone with luck with the State or other agencies the second time around?

You may want to reapply for services from Vocational Rehabilitation or speak to someone there to see if they can assist you.

You can also look into some non profit organizations that provide grants to individuals . A few organizations/websites I can think of are....

GOALS (www.goalsinc.net)

Non Profit Expert.com: Individual Assistance (http://www.nonprofitexpert.com/assistance.htm)

Travis Roy Foundation (http://www.travisroyfoundation.org/pages/grants.html)

Fundraising is another option, and you may want to check out NTAF's Spinal Cord Injury Program (http://www.transplantfund.org/Catastrophic/index.cfm)

I am in the same boat. We bought a 1998 Ford Econoline and gave 4,000.00 for it and center for independent living put in a 9,000.00 lift. However, we are having to keep the van in the shop all the time. It is there even as we speak. It is draining us. We need a new one but really can't afford the expense for the van much less the lift. We still have not had home renovations done. The same company was supposed to help us over 2 years ago. I supposedly qualified for a one time grant of 20,000.00. We used 9000.00 for the lift and have not heard from them since. When I call they don't return my calls. The rest was to widen doors in my doublewide. I can only get into three rooms of my home.

Nothing specific on funding but resources for adaptive driving and some mention availability of funding.

This is later-what's the status on your transportation now? I just read re your situation. I am a retired Voc. Rehab. Counselor (GA) and we would provide equipment if necessary to get/keep employment. I don't know of any that will assist with vehicle purchase. Good luck!
