Ever try and Ab Lounge?

0 Recommendations

Ok we are looking for exercise equipment for my son. We have looked at recumbent bikes and are still trying to pick one for him, but we also saw those ab lounges you see on tv for doing sit ups.

Has anyone tried those after their spinal cord injuries and are they able to work them? I see that you lay on them. Transferring on and off of it is what I am most concerned with. then it shows you using your arms to do sit ups. He is getting ab muscle return and they want us to focus on that return and pump it. This looks like a good way to do sit ups and to stretch the muscles in the trunk.

Any info suggestions on other equipment anyone has tried... We are up for suggestions!

Thanks
Michelle

Exercise Spinal cord injuries

My neighbor had one in her garage being unused, so I gave it a try. I am C-6 incomplete, but through several years of core strengthening, my upper abs are kicking in. My trainer got me on it by using my hoyer lift. Unless we had a couple of people to help, the Hoyer was the only safe way for me.

He (my trainer) liked the way we could stretch my back. But I couldn't really use it on my own. We have moved on and I gave the AbLounger to an able bodied friend. I am sure you can find one easily without paying full price.

Happy stretching!

We went out today and bought it new, 89.00...Matt was able to transfer onto it. He can make it work but not to it's full extent and your right you can stretch your back great with this thing. He did about 50 crunches and then said NO offence Mom, but get me off this damn thing it hurts my stomach.. DUHHHH working muscles you have not worked in some time. Getting off of it was another story he tried to sit up and the wole thing was going with him so he will have to have someone with him for transfers. But we all tried it. Best torture device I have bought yet..lol and the whole family can use it. Thanks for the reply!!!
