Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act being held up by Senator Coburn?

0 Recommendations

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) truly has his hands full with the shenanigans of Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn, and Dr. Tom’s One Man Anti-Medicine Show. [DB] Indeed, it’s not just women’s health care bills the Doctor opposes, [DB] he is probably the Senator blocking other important measures as well.

The bill to create a registry for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, S. 1382, is under the Oklahoma Senator’s thumb, as well might be the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act. S. 1183, to “enhance and further research into paralysis and to improve rehabilitation and the quality of life for persons living with paralysis and other physical disabilities.” The companion bill to the ALS legislation (H.R. 2295) gathered 276 co-sponsors, including Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV1) and Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV2), and passed in the House of Representatives 411-3. [GovTrack] The House version of the Reeve Bill, H.R. 1727, passed on a voice vote last October. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is planning a “Coburn Omnibus” for July that would wrap most if not all of the bills held by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) into one large measure to be voted on by the Senate, according to a Coburn aide and two Democratic leadership staffers.

Coburn is blocking roughly a hundred bills that are generally non-controversial or have broad support. By placing a hold, Coburn prevents the bills from passing quickly through the Senate under a unanimous consent request. With floor time at such a premium, Reid would have trouble bringing up each bill for an individual debate and vote.

why is this one --(explicative).doing this??is this a last ditch effort to delay health care for the poor?,or is it a manifestation of the evil people in this world ,with their "I've got mine,to hell with everyone else" kinda thinking??i read where mass. passed their "coverage for all" measure, and suddenly, the cost's went up??they didn't investigate as to where the additional money went,
--my "conspiracy theory"is the profiteers in our health care system are trying EVERY DIRTY-UNDERHANDED ploy to convince the stupid American voters that we can't afford universal coverage, but the numbers show we pay MORE and get LESS for our money??!!!?!
what truly worries me,is how easily a lot of voters ARE manipulated by LIES!! ..(explain how we got bush over a inteligent man like al gore??can you say MANIPULATION??)
when senators and congressmen-even the president stand and swear to preserve the constitution, and to represent those who elected them, then proceed to rape and pillage the treasury, while ordinary people die in the streets-because they have no money-usually because a thief stole their future(financial crisis?)..we live in a twisted world..

Coburn is a jerk. Plain and simple.

Not only is he blocking dozens of bills that could help millions of people, the more people write and call to urge him not to, the more he digs his heals in. Jerk, jerk, jerk, jerk, jerk. I have other choice words for him, but I'll refrain from writing them down.

In my opinion, the M.D. after his name stands for "mentally deficient" not "medical doctor."

I don't know when he's up for re-election, but I pray he doesn't win.

Don't we have enough to deal with without some stumbling block taking away our chance of hope and help? Politics and politicians, turds and their finest.
