Brain injuries

0 Recommendations

If anyone has any advise on brain injuries i would appreciate it. My finance is C4/C5 and now i am told three months after the accident that he has a TBI. He is just not getting any better. He is off and on the vent more times than i can count. He seems either emotional or confused. My focus has shifted from moving to concerned about his mental facilities. I just need someone to discuss this with because i can get information from the family or medical field. Is this normal or does he have more issues that being paralyzed. I just want my fiance back. I don't care about the paralysis but if he is not mentally there how am i going to continue on!

Often brain injuries are missed in spinal cord injuries.. however usually the amount of force that can cause a sci usually is enough the thrash the brain around and cause problems. My daughter had a severe brain injury that put her in a coma for months right after the accident. Brain injuries take time and special therapy to improve. He is confused and afraid. Most often people healing will go through many different phases. You will need to have patience and also understand that he cannot control what is happening. I seriously recommend the book "Starting Again" By Patricia Davies... if he does not get the right treatment the outcome can be devastating... I am lucky to have my daughter back, but she went through periods of confusion, agression, fear, anxiety... nothing like she is now... about 2 years. Now she is sweet and kind, but does have memory issues and gets frustrated that she cannot remember information in classes and has to write and or tape record everything. She learns by repetition... I wish you well..
