Thank you Lucky dog. I will tell your story to my brother.
Thanks ddom I will check on availability for hourly usage, not fun to live in a small town.

What experience you have with Rhabilitation Institute of Chicago? I am thinking about checking it out and moving him there for his next round of inpatient rehahd once he gets over his awful wound.

I have also hears that there is a good place in Atlanta

It appears that both these places use a certain robot, I know chicago has the lokomat and I am not sure if Atlanta has the same thing or the newest robo-suit.

I will check them out but if you know anything please let me know

Thanks

The Shepherd Center in Atlanta is the place I would tell anyone to go to with a spinal cord injury. The patient and family will come home knowing exactly what to do for any situation and the patient will have the maximum independence possible. I could write a book on all the wonderful programs but in short they will turn your ignorance into knowledge and help the patient and family realize the potential for a wonderful life with all the possibilities. Any specific questions feel free to ask. Good luck

Shepherds is a fantastic facility and family. My daughter was there as in inpatient, in the out patient program, the nrn study sponsored by the Christopher Reeves Foundation. She travels there for continued follow-up. We have made permanent friends and added to our family. They can also help with the wound issue. I urge you to get there as soon as you can. please look at Erin's carepage. erinmstewart

When you all were there, did they have the use of a robot in assisting patients to walk? or did they use any e-stim technology?
Thanks

Shepherd Center is one of the best. Most of the people at my SCI peer support group have gone there and have nothing, but praise for it. You can check them out at www.shepherd.org. I am still trying to go there, but I am dealing with workers comp, so it is a fight. I have never had the opportunity for any SCI rehab.
If you don't find your answer on the website give them a call as they will answer your questions. They even give tours. My husband took a tour when I was in an Atlanta hospital for my second surgery.
I wish you both the best.

Thanks horsetail. I will call them tomorrow. I watched their on line videos and it was wonderful, however I never saw any mention of the latest technology they are using. It may be because the video is older than these technologies.
Thanks

Yes and yes!!!!

http://www.shepherd.org/ Please explore the website, call and ask questions!

you are welcome. I had a thought this morning that you may be interested in. I met a guy who was involved in the Miami project and now has own business - Dolphin Medical that supplies medical supplies (catheters, etc) to SCI people and tries to help with those copays. He talked a bit about the Miami project when he came and spoke to my SCI peer support group and I remembered looking at their web page. Well I thought of this this morning and it may be something that you may find helpful. Here is their site. http://www.miamiproject.miami.edu/Page.aspx?pid=183 Maybe you will find what you are looking for here as they are dedicated to finding a cure for paralysis. They would have the latest technology and they do trials. Horsestail.

Thank you all, I will check on the Miami project as well as the SHepherd center.
