neurontin ears ringing

0 Recommendations

Hi all,

I am starting Neurontin for trigeminal neuropathy and I have ringing in the ears that is very uncomfortable. I also take Wellbutirn 300 mg a day for depression which can give ringing in the ears but I haven t had that symptom before.
Does the ringing from Neurontin stop? Has anyone had this experience?. Thanks already for your support.

I have been on Neurontin now for a couple of years for a pinched nerve to my head and nerve pain from 6 fusions from DDD. I have not experienced any ear ringing, but I know we all respond differently to meds. I did find that when I take it at a higher dosage, it makes my mind scrambled and I both say and write words dyslexic (sp?). I too am on an antidepressant, but it is Paxil CR...so I don't know about any interaction. You can always call your pharmacist as I am learning they seem to listen and are willing to give you answers. Good luck.

Thanks R,

I think it is the wellbutrin giving the ringing in the ears. I am trying to increase the dosage of Neurontin, but it knocks me out at 300 mg. and I need it for my trigeminal neuropathy. Itis hard so often and the depression takes over and I get discouraged. But then I face ly life every morning with the physical and emotional pain. And go go with the day.
Best to you,
S.

yes it will ususally stop after a few days hopefully about 4-7 days its a combination of the two drugs side affects, i will pray for you if its still doing it after a week check with your doctor to switch your meds, change the wellbutin it should help good luck. Richard

THANKS RICHARD FOR YOUR INFO; I HAVE BEEN ON THE WELLBUTRIN FOR OVER A MONTH NOW AND THE RINGING HAS ONLY BEGUN NOW. I HAVE TRIED SO MAY ANTI DEPRESSANTS AND WELLBUTRIN IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS ME GETTING OUT OF BED AND GOING. NOT ON FULL SPEED BUT GETTING STARTED; I HAVE BEEN THRU EFFEXOR AND LEXAPRO AND THE OLD ONES. AND WHAT COULD I CHANGE TO? I HOPE THE RINGING GOES AWAY.
KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS. WE ARE IN THE LORD S HANDS AND WE SHALL FEAR NOT.
LOVE TO ALL, SOPHIE

i will remember you in prayer every morning i use to suffer with depression but god relieved of that burden and he can do it for you. Richard

THANK YOU RICH. AND MAY WE BE BLESSED. AND MAY I RECEIVE THE GRACE THAT YOU HAVE. SOPHIE

Have you tried Pristiq for depression? I had also been on Welbutrin, too, and It is an older drug. There are no side effects with me on the Pristiq. It works well with Neurontin. It is relatively new and works so much better. I've been taking Neurontin on and off for five years. I have no ringing in my ears on Neurotin. Perhaps you should switch to Dilantin, Tegrotol physicians note that switching help with symptoms. But I'm in agreement that the Neurontin doesn't create the ears ringing.
Google your meds and see what the side effects are. Good Luck

wellbutrin IS WHAT IS DOING IT. ARE YOU TAKING ANYOTHER MEDS

Thanks Rozia. I reduced the Wellb. to 150 mg XR in the morning and the ringing has stopped. I also take Amisulpride at 50 mg. which is for depression at low doses, and is an atypical anti-psychotic used for schizophrenia at much higher doses. At 50 mg it is supposed to be an activator, so perhaps a good replacement for the second Wellbutrin I have stopped.

I also take Neurontin 1200 mg per day, for trigeminal neuropathy, which is very sever constant facial pain; and at night a zolpidem 10 mg; and 1 mg lormetazepam, which is similar to Ativan.
The neurosurgeon, who has no surgery to propose except thermocoagulation to injure the trigeminal nerve, but which only works in 50 to 60% of patients, also prescibed Tramadol for the neuropathic pain and I started today at 37.5 mg; and that has helped the face pain. The psychiatrist I see encouraged me to take the Tramadol too, but I am a bit scared of being dopey, as I still work. I will take another Tramadol this evening and the last dose of Neurontin this evening too. Any suggestions are welcome from you all. Best from SR.

Dear SophieRose and others,
I have been on Neurontin(1800) mg for five years. I also never got ringing. They say that the drug is perfectly safe. I think it affects people differently. My memory has never been the same ever since. I also feel like its hard to comprehend at times. I always assumed it was from the Neurontin but never definately sure. I read that RSD/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy can cause memory proplems also. I also had changes in my hair after a year and weight gain at first. I lost a lot of hair and it looks damaged and dried out all the time no matter what I do. I have to be very careful what I use on it. I also had vertigo for a while but it went away. Not really sure if the neurontin causes all this. Not even sure how much it really helps the pain. I have been on elevil 30 mg. since September 13 and have been better. My pain was always off and on but never this long. If you read my story, tramadol is also another drug I have taken along with darvocet. Good luck to all of you
