Hi, I was diagnosed last year right after I graduated from college. Something that has takenme 7 years to do...Im 48. Anyway, I cobraed the school insurance which cant be extended. It ends the end of August. Can my hospital kick me out its not a county hospital but they take a lot of uninsured patients. Im freaking out! I got a bill from them for 40,000 dollars. My job doesnt supply insurance and really barely covers essentials. Anybody out there got any ideas?

Sorry about your predicament.
Make an appointment to speak with the Social Worker at the hospital where you being treated. The Social Worker will have information regarding alternatives. Believe me the hospital will want to hook you up with insurance as soon as possible.

Women with Ovarian Cancer stages IIIc and IV are able to be "fast tracked" for Social Security Disability. You can apply as soon as you are not working but payments are not started until you are out of work for 6 months. You are then eligible for medicare after receiving SSD for 2 years.

Also SSI is available for those with limited incomes who are disabled and with SSI you are able to to obtain Medicaid immediately.

Good Luck!

Try www.cancercare.org. They might be able to help you in finding out how to get insurance of some sort

When my cobra ran out, I did a lot of research and
discovered that my state, I am in Maryland had a program that allowed cobra users to transfer their
insurance into the state fund....this was amazing because the state must accept everyone even with pre-existing issues.

The problem is that you have to move quickly...because there is a limited time to apply for
state insurance...two weeks, I think from the time your
cobra expires.

Check to see if your state has something like this.

I hope that this helps...
