Update on my PET/CT scan follow-up today for my Borderline

0 Recommendations

Hi Ladies,
Thanks so much for the caring thoughts and support you have given me. I finally had my doctor appointment today. It turns out my PET/CT report is 4 pages long! Here's a summary of the three main findings:
1. A 3 cm size, oval, low attenuating nodule on the left pelvic wall appears to represent an ovarian cyst. This nodule, however, does demonstrate high level PET activity with a PET SUV value of 9.0. Although high level PET may be associated with an ovulating follicle, this finding must be considered to be suspicious in light of the patient's history of a prior right-sided ovarian carcinoma. I would recommend correlation with a transvaginal pelvic sonogram. Because of the rather high and lateral position of this ovary, ultrasound visualization may be difficult. This finding also should be correlated with the patient's menstrual cycle. A follow up PET/CT scan in 6-8 weeks may be needed to exclude a developing ovarian malignancy. (My oncologist today said she doesn't think it's anything, but wants me to come in for a vaginal ultrasound in August. I'm still not assured that I shouldn't be worried about this. That's 3 months, not 6-8 weeks.)

2. A finding of note and significance is the presence of a borderline aneurysmal dilation of the ascending thoracic aorta. Cardiology consultation is recommended. (My oncologist referred me. I have an appointment next week.)

3. A granulomatous complex appears to be present in the right lung. A small nodule laterally in the right middle lobe, however, at this time is not definitely calcified, and because of this patient's history of prior malignancy, a short interval follow-up CT scan (6 months) is recommended. (My oncologist referred me. I have an appointment on June 17th. She thinks it is something called "Sarcoidism".)

Sorry this is so long, but that's what I know now, though I don't feel too much more enlightened. More wait and see. Does anyone think I should be more worried about the PET SUV of 9.0 on my remaining ovary? I do have my period now, so I probably was ovulating then, but I don't know how much that can affect the results. Thanks again.

Heidi,

I would have the transvaginal ultrasound and see if they can see a cyst. Cyst are so common when you are ovulating. I would ask your doctor if she can do it as soon as you finish you period so you would not be ovulating again when you go back. I would not want another PET scan so soon because it is so much radiation. Granulomatous is very common so I would wait for that CT. The cardiologist will probably order a echo of your heart so don't be surprised. Try not to worry too much until all is ruled out. Take care.

Mary

Thanks Mary.
