Two Year Cancer Anniversary Today

0 Recommendations

Hello!
Two years ago today -- September 10, 2007 -- I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. On January 18, 2008 -- I received notice that there was "No Evidence of Disease" and thus far I am still in remission!

Anyway, I just wanted to share with all of you!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! Linda

That is wonderful news. Now we will forge ahead for 3 years and then 4 and so on. Keep on staying healthy. I hope to be in remission soon so I too can start counting but for now I am just happy to be alive one year post diagnosis on Sept. 25th.

Hooray! What a great thing! Celebrate! Make plans!

I have had no recurrence since I finished chemo in Feb. 2006 and thank God.

Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful news of two years of great life! If you don't mind sharing what type and stage ovca you were diagnosed with, that would be even better for us! I hope and pray you never have another problem.

Hi Kimsmom,

Sure, I don't mind sharing that information at all.

I was diagnosed with an Immature Teratoma that consisted of three types of Ovarian Cancer -- Germ Cell, Embryonic and Yolk Sac.

My initial surgery was performed because a mass was discovered on my left Ovary during a routine prenatal ultrasound -- the surgery wasn't because they suspected Cancer but rather because my OB was concerned that the mass may cause complications during my pregnancy (yeah...I would say so! :) ). So...my left Ovary and Fallopian Tube were removed BUT because I was pregnant, they could not perform a "true" staging surgery.

Based on the biopsy of the mass, it was determined that it was grade 3 and extremely aggressive.

Because it was so aggressive and large, I had to begin treatment while pregnant -- 3 rounds that were six days each of Bleomycin, Cisplatin and Etoposide.

I had my daughter on January 16 via c-section and then was put under so they could do my staging surgery however, by that time, I had had 18 sessions of Chemo so they were optimistic that they wouldn't find any additional Cancer and thankfully, they did not!

I have spoken with my Oncologist about my stage several times and he has stated that based on the size (it was the size of a large canteloupe) and the fact that it had spread to the Fallopian Tube, we know that it was at least stage 2 but are unsure if it was anything beyond that.

Jill,
What an interesting saga you've been through! And congratulations for passing that one year milestone! Keep up the positive, can-do attitude!
