Three Websites from Long Term Survivors

0 Recommendations

I have listed information about some survivors who have websites in various threads to inject some hope and also to discuss the effectiveness of alternative healing. Being that several of you have sent me messages indicating the helpfulness of this, I thought it may be good to list the websites here on a separate thread.

Here they are:

Hi...did you happen to buy the book on the cancerhealed.com website? It is an e-book and I would be interested in hearing what you think before I consider buying it. (Any you found more helpful than this?)

I know you are very much into alternative treatments and wonder if you would share with us what you take on a daily basis? I drink a 3 or 4 ounces of Goji juice, take ginger pills and drink Superfoods Supreme from GNC...it has a ton of antioxidants. I also try to eat a lot of aspargus and blackberries....plus various fruits and vegetables in general. I also have grape seed extract that I try to take daily as well.

Thanks so much!
Kim

The one thing I really, really like about this site is the open-mindedness. I've been on other support group sites for OC where anyone who brings up any alternative treatment (not to the exclusion of the standard treatments, but in addition to) are derided and hounded off the site. I've been able to get a lot of different kinds of information here -- and it's all to the good for all of us. Thanks youngmom and anyone else who posts. We need all the information we can get!

THANK YOU so very much for posting these sites. As a young mom myself I have actually avoided this site for awhile because it had become too hard to keep reading about the magnitude of this terrible disease. I came here today though planning on posting a message to those out there who might be able to offer me stories of hope, so I can find strength in knowing that this disease is NOT a death sentence and it IS something that we can overcome. I need to find this inner strength and hope for myself to be strong in my fight and for my family, but also so I can be on here to offer hope and support to the women who are struggling. I look forward to reading these womens' stories and finding strength in their success! Thank you!

Kim, I did not buy the e-book on cancerhealed, but had various conversations with the people from the website and they ended up sending me a lot of information ( which I believe may even be sections of the book ). Although I didn't get a lot of "new" information, I thought what they sent me was very good. AS for what I do, the biggest thing is eating a plant based diet ( I try to eat 8 to 10 servings of veggies and fuits a day ). I eat red meat very rarely
( once a month or so ) and eat chicken or fish a couple times a week. I avoid dairy, except no sugar added plain yogurt that I use for smoothies, and a little cottage cheese to mix with Udo's Oil. I try to minimize the processed food I eat, but have found it unrealistic to eliminate it entirely. I avoid sugar and anything with sugar in it, using Stevia as a sweetener. I make homemade rye bread. I drink green tea with ginger in it a lot and I drink Essiac Tea everyday. For snacks I eat whole raw nuts - my favorite is almonds. I take a multi, vit c, vit d, vit e, vit b complex, calcium, magnesium, shark cartilage, maitake mushroom, and Immpower. I try to exercise everyday (sometimes jumping on my daughter's backyard trampoline - I'm sure I look silly but I don't care )and if I go to the gym I spend at least 20 minutes in the steam bath. I try to avoid negativity, do the things in life I like, look to have a lot of fun and humor everyday, pray, meditate, and practice the Secret. Whether all this helps or not, I don't know for sure, but I truly belieive it does. Good luck to you.

Youngmom,
I enjoyed reading the links to our post.
I am looking into Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) to keep myself in remission. I have been brainwashed in the past by the stogy narrow medical model world that I worked in for so many years but now I am open and exploring new additional ways to stay healthy. I am rereading a old Dr. Weil book that I have and have ordered two books about Integrative Medicine.
Areas that I am open to are possibly hypnotherapy, craniosacral therapy or acupuncture for my leg and left posterior back discomfort. Looking into Chinese herb therapy also. I plan to discuss these options with my oncologist next Monday.
Thanks for opening my mind to alternatives during our lunch last month. And additional thanks to those on this message board who also shared their information.

Youngmom,
You inspire me. I have been on the OVCA Roller Coaster since Aug 2009. Tolerating chemo well, but looking for alternatives for post chemo. I thank you for the suvivor sites you posted...I have read "Beating Ovarian Cancer", a wonderful and candid book.
I am anxious to get more info on the natural approach. Please share ANY and ALL info you might have. Thank you!
