Thank you, Dr. Oz

Today Dr. Oz had a woman who's sister died of ovarian cancer and told her story. Although it wasn't a lengthy discussion, Dr. Oz did have 5 symptoms of cancer women can't ignore:
1. Weight loss of at least 10% of your body weight without any reason
2. Bloating - as in ovarian cancer. Tumors often have blisters which when they burst, they lose fluid which accumulates in the belly and cause bloating. The doctor from the American Cancer Association said most women ignore this symptom and unfortunately, most doctors, too.
3. Pain after drinking alcohol. The blood vessels surrounding and feeding the tumor expand and put more pressure and "squeeze" the tumor causing pain.
4. Chronic cough and hoarsness as in lung cancer.
5. Changes in skin on the surface of the skin as in breast cancer like around the nipples.

I want to thank Dr. Oz for talking about ovarian cancer on his show and raising the awareness to women about the bloating issue which is the main thing that we as women think comes from just getting older. Alot of women watch his show, and I do thank him!

Interesting. Except for number 2, I have never seem the other symptoms listed on any ovarian cancer site. Were these symptoms specifically of ovarian cancer or just symptoms "in general" that shouldn't be ignored.

These were symptoms of cancer in women...not just in ovarian cancer.

I posted this also under Dr. Oz. I posted it while the show was still on. He did not speak specifically to ovarian cancer in his 5 symptoms. I know some of us emailed him and asked him to do a segment on Ovarian Cancer. This was not dedicated to just ovarian cancer but some symptoms of cancer and the woman that spoke was talking of just ovarian cancer. I am thankful he gave it the time he did as I really did not expect him to address it. I know a lot of people watch his show and I hope he got enough of the message out that all women will take more interest in the changes in their bodies and not ignore them. This is our mission, right.

I know alot of women here get upset that ovarian cancer is not addressed as much as say breast cancer. Dr. Oz doesn't have a whole show dedicated to any one subject. So when he had a woman speak of her sister who had died of ovca instead of someone who had breast cancer, I was so glad to see it. I saw the faces of the women in the audience when he was giving the 5 symptoms of some cancers including ovca and how surprised they seemed to be...like they never heard of it before...that show gave awareness to LOTS of women today.

Today, again, Dr. Oz talked about ovarian cancer. I think he's either listening to your voices when you write in or just picked the lady out of the audience today ahead of time as she already had a microphone with the question about several of her friends having breast cancer and one with ovarian cancer. He addressed the symptoms again. Thanks, Dr. Oz!

These symptoms are getting out there but- some we don't pay attention to. And sometimes there are no real symptoms. I would like to add another here that is a possibility. I had excessive hair growth on my abdomen and some extra facial hair as well. I was on HRT and I believe for too long. Just another thing to pay attention to for sure. Be well, Jan

Hello, I was the women that shared my sisters story and I think you are right we need to get the word out more about this nasty cancer. It was to late for my sister but it is not to late for me to get her story out to other women. I become the chair of the relay for Life and I am having the first Maureen Henry walk of Hope in 2010. Thank you for post.

Thank you, Kim for sharing our story with millions of women on the Dr. Oz show! If we can save one more life by getting the word out about this disease, it gives new meaning to your sister and what she went through.

God bless you!

My sister fought cancer with all she had but, because she was diagnosed at a very late stage, the cancer was way too strong. During my sister’s life, she had such an impact on so many people lives. I am here to make sure her fight with cancer does not go unnoticed and that her death also leaves an impact on people. One of her last wishes was to have her organs donated to cancer research. Even in her death she wanted to help find a cure. How can we in all our health not follow her example? I am here today to bring cancer awareness to all women. To raise money for much needed research and to STOP this illness for the last time. It has to stop taking our loved ones. We need to get the word out to the world.

KimTouchedbyCancer,
You have done a wonderful service for all women here and we need more women like you. We are slowly getting the word out and I am sure it started the same way with breast cancer awareness. I am sorry it hit so close to home but you have found a way to make the loss of your sister a help for other women. Bless you.
