sugery and the vaccine trial

0 Recommendations

I had my abdominal tumor out last tues at u.of penn.Had enough for the vaccine trial.I will start on chemo again because I have tiny size tumors on my colon and abdominal wall that dr. says chemo will knock out.And it is a small area in both locations.Yea.Iam sooo glad I went there. My old dr. was just going to leave a 3cmx5cm(larger than on ct scan) tumor and keep up chemo. The sugery wasnt bad.I have 30 staples got out Friday, and went back to work cleaning on Monday.Of couse with the help of some pain relievers.Just knowing a tumor of that size is out is such a relief.I still cant comprehend why the old onc. just wanted to let it sit and fester.I think in a way it was because he wanted to keep me there to make more money off of me.Isnt that sad?My insurance is awsome, no referrals needed and covers everything!Well all, enjoy the holiday weekend and Keep Positive.

I can't imagine why the other onc would leave that tumor in you. I sure am glad you switched doctors and got some treatment.

It is a good thing you switched doctors. It really makes me wonder what some think of patients; are we lives or just medical record numbers? I wish you all the best and may this vaccine hold a cure for you.

Aren't you glad you switched doctors!! I can't imagine why the other one would want to leave that tumor in there, but at least you are free of that now. You sound like a real trooper and I can't believe you went back to work so soon. Good for you. Hope you feel great very soon!

Catsmeow - I wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery. Can you tell me who your doctor at UPENN is? My mom lives in NJ and is being treated there by a doctor she trusts. I have been thinking of making her an appointment at UPENN since hearing of the vaccine trial there. She had her initial diagnosis and surgery in Sept. 2006 and has been on various courses of chemo since. None of the drugs have succeeded in putting her into any real remission. She responded well to some of them with her CA125 dropping and then as soon as she goes off the drug, the numbers rise again. Recently her scans showed that she has fairly large tumors but her doctor told her surgery is not a viable option. I can't help but think that she would be better off with those tumors out. Maybe a different doctor would have a different opinion about surgery. Also, what do you know about what criteria must be met to qualify for the vaccine trial? You mentioned that you had enough tumor to qualify. Thanks for any info you can provide.

to adarsa 3 The dr Iam seeing is cukos he is the one who delveloped the vaccine. Now as far as I know you must be in remission to start the vaccine.I had my tumor removed three weeks ago and I had my first chemo yesterday of carbo/gemzar.By the way I had carbo/taxol/avastin last year then ca went to 97, had surgery now ca is 78 with small rice size tumor in abdomen and colon all localized.I will do 3 rounds then ca is checked and ct scan. You can call them at 215-615-7407 and ask to set up appt. to see dr.It may take awhile it did for me about a month.Oh, and have all your records so he can look them over(they do that before the appointment is scheduled)They make the vaccine out of your tumor if you didnt know that, its pretty interesting stuff.I wish you all the best if you need any more information just click on my name for friend request.Keep Positive.
