Yesterday was chemo #4. Today, Saturday, late in the afternoon I have been experiencing stomach pains. Has anyone had stomach pains after their treatments? The pain just seems to come and go. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for me.

I had one sided (right) stomach pain after my first chemo treatment and was given a cat scan by my oncologist ASAP- the only thing that showed up was some irratation of my large intestine due to the stint from the port in my abdomen - since then I have had the pain on and off during treatment - I would definitely speak to my dr. about it and check it out - just knowing what it was for me helped me deal with it and was no problem after that - I am going to have my 6th and final treatment in two weeks - aside from some increased fatigue it has gone very well - Good Luck my friend - you are in my prayers -
I've had similar pain but usually associated with constipation. As if the nausea and fatigue weren't enough....
Hi Esther,
I'm sorry to hear about the pain you are having. Be sure to tell your oncologist about it so that it can be checked out.
I have had some abdominal and pelvic pain associated with my chemo. I also have inflammatory changes in my colon that are being investigated now. Chemo can have side effects on the digestive system. Hopefully, when your chemo is completed your pain will go away in time. But it should be checked out to make sure that nothing else is going on. I hope you are soon feeling much better. Eileen
Thanks to all of you. It sounds like the pain can be due to constipation. I woke up this morning pain free. But I will mention it to the oncologist. Now I'm starting to feel the achyness and fatigue that always seems to follow.
Note to Annecris: I wish you lots of luck on your last
treatment. I pray that it will go well for you.
Love, Esther
I had severe abdominal pains the first few cycles of chemo until I discovered that it was from a combination of paralyzed intestines and gas. Now, I start taking laxatives one day before, the day of, and two days after chemo. Also I avoid any food that forms gas, such as dairy, beans, cabbage, etc.
Do remember to drink as much as possible ( water and dark juices) a couple of days before a chemo cycle and for the week after chemo as this help to flush your body of the harsh chemicals. I had the same problem as QUACKER.... and had to add stool softeners and gentle laxatives during chemo, but it did help with the abdominal pain. We hope that these suggest help you and do let your doctor know the side effects you are having.
Stacey
Thank you Quacker and Stacey, that makes sense to me. The pain was gone the following day. But I do think I need to drink more. I don't drink a whole lot of water and I know it's important to flush those chemicals out. I'll just have to try harder to drink more.
