I'm starting weekly Taxol this Monday and would really like some feedback on any side effects and also how you have responded to this regimen. It will be 3 weeks on and one week off. Thanks

I am on my 23rd week of Taxol 40 mgs/sq meter.
EAsy as pie. Hair is growing back, thinner. I don't feel that tired. Steroid has made weight go up, I eat like a lumberjack for three days after steroid.
But this is easy. You have about a day or two of steroid high,,I have to take Xanax to sleep but feel sort of cheerful and talk non stop. Then all is well.
.
Drink 2 qts of water a day. My neuropathy did not get worse, I take glutamine for that. But if you don't drink water, you get bladder symptoms like a uti.
I feel great!! Once a week keeps me in the country but I get part of mine in La and part in Md so I go backc and forth.
No problems with blood issues. Some docs give twice my dose for 12 weeks and that is harder but this is a piece of cake. I hope it keeps me in remission.
Keep us posted!!
PS ask for claritin not Benadryl and you won't sleep all day. I needed Zofran like two times for sour stomach. No nausea at all. He reduced the steroid alot and no allergic reaction.
Thanks PAtricia123. Did you loose all your hair? How is your CA125? Did it go down?Sorry for so many questions. Also are you 3 on and 1 off? Thanks again, just getting nervous.
I am different. Taking it weekly no days off. But I get part of it here in La and travel to Maryland two weeks of the month and get it there by another oncologist,,isn't that nice!
Hair growing back but thin, they say it will thicken.
Ca 125 is 11, was 18 at end of intial treatment. I had neg scans but the 18 made me nervous, I know that the lower the marker, the less chance of recurrence. Mine was done three weeks after finishing the iv/ip and I hope it got lower but we didn't do it again for three months. Apparently for some the marker gets lower and gets to the lowest point 90 days after finishing treatment.
I think the marker at 18 prompted the onc to offer the weekly taxol and now they are using it for initial treatment,,it may be more effective.
But it is easy,,at least for me it has been. NO nausea at all.
Thank you so much and you are in my prayers.
hey thanks for your post. I am glad to hear about your experience with Taxol. This is my second go around with Taxol/Carboplatin and had different side effects that you described. I thought I was getting a UTI but nope it is the Chemo. The eating like a lumberjack, the buzz after a treatment, etc. I know I am not alone but since I've had this drug before I figured I knew all that would happen. I am just angry this time since I went 5 years and 2 weeks without a problem and my first diagnosis was Stage1C!!!!!!!!!
Oh man,,five years and now this. I feel for you.
I am praying for a long enough remission to get the nano tech treatment. THere is an article about it in yesterdays London Times,,from a company called Bind or something. It looks so good. They just target the drug right to the cancer with no sides. AMazing stuff. If we can hang on, we will benefit from it.
But weekly Taxol is not bad in my opinion,,maybe with a larger dose you get more sides but I have been okay.
Good luck, you are all in my prayers everyday!! Pat
I'm now on carbo-taxol every week. They had to take me off last week because of low platelets. Otherwise my CA-125 has gone down from 93 to 33 in just two chemo treatments. Usual ups with steroids and I crash for one day then up and going until next treatment. I try to walk 30 min when I can and I still paint every week day.
Hi there! Just wanted to toss this in here . I had taxol chemo every 3 weeks I believe it was. Also had a combo in there some where. That was almost 14 years ago. I was a stg. 4 with mets to the liver. I believe it was the taxol that saved my life. Tough stuff but I am here and well. Good luck my friend. Be well, Jan
I just finished 10 consecutive weeks of Taxol. I tolerated it really well...the usual fatigue being the main complaint. However, my lymph nodes continued to grow and my CA125 continued to rise, so I am off it now.
I hope you do well on it, and that you find the side effects as minimal as I did.
