Site of origin in left ovary

0 Recommendations

It seems interesting that so many of us had the left ovary as the site of our original cancer. Mine was a tumor on my left ovary with cancer in the left fallopian tube, very little ascites but metastasis to the periaortic lymph nodes. I would be interested to know how many others have had the left ovary as the original or only involved ovary. If it is more common, I wonder why?

Me too. Left ovary. cancer matastasis to the colon, appendex, omentum, bladder.etc. DX stage IIIC

But I did have a hysterectomy in 1980...leaving the left ovary. Little did I know then what lied ahead for me. But God did.

Hmmm....my left ovary was quite the larger, at 11 cm. Can't remember the size of my right one, but it did test positive for cancer. My layperson's guess, based on the size, would be that my left one became cancerous first. My uterus had cancer on the outside, my tubes were clear. Cancer on my omentum. My bladder was adhered to my left ovary. Multiple seeds on my colon. Fair amount of ascites. My recurrence , so far, is only in my para aortic lymph nodes. They were all clear at the time of surgery.

Hi...mine was only left ovary as well. I read that it has to do with worrying. Seems weird that worrying and stress affects the left ovary, but that is what it said. The Dr. is pretty famous and writes about female health...her name is Christine Northrup and her book is "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom." Has anyone else read this? :)Kim

Mine was actually on my right ovary (15 cm in greatest dimension). However, they didn't even know that I also had a tumor on my left one until they opened me up...and there were 2 tumors on the left one which were merging into one (10 cm).

Yup. mine was left ovary also, had mets to the lymph, liver, colon, adrenals, diaphram and numerous other places. Only symptom was lower back ache 1 week before diagnosis. Hindsight, there were a few of those vague "occassional" bloating, times of fatigue and slight nausea...

Mine was also left with microscopic traces in lymph nodes

Mine was on the left, and the right. One tumor was larger than the other, but I don't know which was which. Had lots of ascites and there was metastisis to several organs in the abdomen.

koh847, that info about the book is amazing. I had been under tremendous stress for quite sometime when I was diagnosed....financial, marital, and nursing my mother who died. Less than 2 months later I was diagnosed with the cancer on my left ovary. I will definitely check that out.

Hi Mom Anderson....I googled that Dr. and I cut and pasted the info below. Not sure I fully buy it but she sure does!

"A condition, such as an ovarian cyst, is a communication, a special language, through which our bodies speak. These identifiable conditions tell us we need to heal from a deeper, often unconscious wounding that tells us we are never enough, that we are somehow tainted.

Dr. Northrup says that ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer are related to our creative power in the world. Ovaries are our seat of power, creation and creativity. When we are addicted to external authority or approval, an energy dysfunction can occur.

This dis-ease blocks us from moving forward. This can happen secondary to financial, physical, or emotional abandonment.

When our ovaries need to get our attention, they can change very quickly. A large ovarian cyst can grow in a matter of days when we feel controlled or criticized by others or when we control and criticize others.

Energy blockages that create ovarian cysts can also result from stress, which might not negative. It could be that a woman has a job she loves but is consumed by, leading to neglect of the need to rest. A cyst can result.

According to Dr. Northrup, left-sided ovarian cysts are symbolic of the wounded feminine."

There is more in her book....I read the whole section when I was first diagnosed. Interesting....

Mine was 1A, left ovary too.

I , too, began with the left ovary,to omentum. During surgery, a liitle scraped off top of bowel and small tumor on right ovary. I was under stress, just before retirement, and then, by December, those hindsight vague symptoms that I thought were attributed to a life style change. Also, I was at the gym the week before diagnosis and a cruise planned for the week after diagnosis. Guess I was fooled!

Score another one for the left ovary. Mass inside a cyst, mets to the right ovary and a couple of cells in the washings - 1C.

Hello Momanderson920,

My ovarian oncologist with 30 years experience told me that ovarian cancer does really start in the ovaries but originates in the fallopian tube(s) and moves to the ovary(s). This sounds like the same thing our eggs do, but this is where the ovarian cancer originates.

My cancer was in the right ovary. I am also curious if any of you all had miscarriages. I have 3 children and had 2 miscarriages.

My largest tumors were on the left ovary; stage IIIA. My right ovary was removed five decades ago.

Mine was also on my left side. How strange!

Mine was on the left side also. Very interesting!

Another left ovary here....diagnosed 1C clear cell 8/06. I had a 9 cm mass on left ovary attached to bladder. My only symptom was urinary frequency that I mentioned to an astute ob/gyn who did ultrasound in office. Ca 125 has been in single digits since surgery..so far so good.

PLE, I had 3 miscarriages between my 1st and 2nd child. I always suspected pesticides as the neighbors we lived next door to were avid gardners and had roses all over our common side fence and many of the rose pesticides are very toxic. I was outside alot in the back yard with my first child and always wondered if that contributed. Never had another miscarriage after moving from that house...all three were while I lived there. I have 3 children.

Count me in...left fallopian tube left in after hysterectomy, I was told thry took the tubes and ovaries. I had 1 miscarriage. I wonder if anyone else ever took a poll on this topic.
